Miguel plays guitar behind his family’s back.
Miguel loves guitar but his family forbid it so Miguel likes to play guitar on the roof of his family’s shoe shop and he plays along with one of his favorite movies with Ernesto del la Cruz starring in it. -
Miguel steals Ernesto del la Cruz’s guitar.
Miguel see’s a family picture of a man with Ernesto del la Cruz’s guitar and he thinks that Ernesto del la Cruz is his great grandfather. So he want’s to do what his great grandpa would have done so he steals the guitar thinking his great grandpa would understand. -
Miguel goes to the spirit world for stealing from the dead.
Miguel plays the guitar after stealing it and when the cops come they can’t see him and he see’s all of his ancestors because he is now in the spirit world -
Miguel goes to try to get his family’s blessing.
After meeting his ancestors he needs to get someone from his family’s blessing to return to the living world. And so he asks his great grandmother, Mama Imelda. They find the special petal and that brings him back to the living world but then of course Miguel can’t help himself and he steals the guitar again and next thing you know he’s back in the spirit world and he wants to get someone else’s blessing to where they bless he can play his guitar. -
Miguel finds someone to help him
After his ancestors wont give him a blessing to go back and play guitar he is out to find another family member, Ernesto del la Cruz, to give him his blessing. On the way to finding Ernesto he meets a man named Hector who could help him get to Ernesto because he used to be a good friend of Ernesto’s -
Miguel finally meets Ernesto
Miguel got to Ernesto’s party with hectors help and he meets Ernesto and gets to know him but when Ernesto tries to give Miguel his blessing it doesn’t work. -
They figure out something
They figure out Ernesto poisoned Hector and stole Hector’s music and guitar so he never really created any of his own songs they were all Hector’s and Ernesto wasn’t Miguel’s real great grandpa anyway now that they figured it out Ernesto called security on them. -
He realizes Hector is his family
When they both get thrown into a cave Miguel pulls out the photo and they both realize they are family because in the photo is his great grandma/Hectors daughter and so then they realize hector could give the blessing the whole time. -
He finally get’s their blessing
Mama Imelda finaly reallizes they can’t hide from music forever and so she gives him her blessing saying he can play music. -
He goes back to his family
After that huge and crazy adventure he goes back to his family.
