"X"
The Cleveland Press received an anonymous letter from a man identified as "X" from California. He claimed he had been killing for medical experiments and referred to the victims as "Laboratory Guinea Pigs" -
Frank Dolozol
The letter written by "X" was somehow linked to Frank Dolozol, a 52 year old slavic migrant. He was a arrested as a suspect for the murder of victim #3. Soon after his arrest he confessed to the murder, then recanted, then was found hanging in his cell. There is a lot of controversy around him because it was found he had sustained severe injuries while under police custody and there was a mere two inch gap for him to hand himself which makes many people suspicious as to if it was suicide. -
Dr. Francis E Sweeney
Sweeney came from a very poor background filled with family lineage that had alcoholism and psychological problems. He served in WWI in a medical unit for amputations and also suffered a head injury. He was personally interviewed by Ness and failed two early polygraph tests where the expert said he was definitely the Torso Murderer. Nothing could tie him to the murders and after he committed himself to a hospital, the murders stopped.
