Sick and Inspection
Civil War Diseases Weist is at a camp near Falmouth VA. He is on the sick list, and writes about being sick with a bad cold and diarrhoea. The division was reviewed and inspected by Gen. Stoneman and Gen. Birney. -
Doctor Problems
Diseases and Surgery He writes that the more he goes to the doctor the worse he gets, and the doctor cofesses that he doesn't know what is wrong with Weist, so he decided not to go to him anymore. Weist buys some apples, and after eating a few writes that he feels better than he did when he was visiting the doctor. -
Brigade
Battle of Fredericksburg Weist went out on Brigade since the battle of Fredericksburg. that evening they would be transferred to Gen. Robinson’s division. -
Guard Duty
Definitions of Civil War Terms Weist stood guard around one o’clock in place another soldier that had been taken ill. It rained the whole time he was on guard duty. Weist later got instructions to be ready to march at reveille. -
A Dishonoured Soldier
Rogues March A soldier named Larks was drummed out of service for desertion. His buttons were cut from his coat, then he was branded with the letter “D” on the hip. He was marched up and down the rank of the whole brigade to the tune of the Rogues March. -

Confederate Indiana Weist has moved from camp Pitcher to a camp near Banksford,VA. He writes that it is still raining, And gets orders to be ready to march. Later those orders are taken back and are then told to put up their tents and be ready for inspection. He writes that Confederate soldiers have taken over Indianapolis. -
Joesph Potter
Diseases Weist receives a letter from a man named Joseph Potter, who may be his brother. In the letter there is news that Potters wife has died, and that their small child is not expected to live. There is also news that Mr.Hewett has died. They all died from the same disease that was going through Plymouth at the time. -
Provost Guard
The Provost Guard Weist is Back at camp Pither. Two men, M.Blackburn, and Newbern were brought back to camp by the provost guard. They had deserted the company on a trip up the river. Another man called Bright also escaped,after payday, and was not heard from since. -
Sick Again
Civil War Medicine Weist writes that he is back on the sick list and has a pain in his ribs. Gen. Hooker took command of the army. He is still in camp pitcher.Another man ran away from camp. -
Col. Van Volkenburg
Cowardice He writes that Col. Van Volkenburg was unjustly discharged from service. He was charged with disloyalty and cowardice. Most everyone thought he was unfairly charged. -
Promotion
Millitary Ranks Weist is Promoted to Corporal. He writes that it was an unwanted promotion, and that he does not at all want to be Corporal. -
Pay Day
Military Pay in the Civil War Weist is called to receive his monthly pay, and is told to be ready to march by daylight. -
Whittling Accident
Whittling Weist writes that while whittling the end of a stick a piece hit him right above the eye, leaving a deep gash. It was his worst Injury while in service. -
Going Home
Going Home Weist is released from service and begins to pack his things to go home. He writes over the course of his trveling days that he bathed and put on a fresh suit. He began traveling around seven in the morning of the third. -
