Main Leader: Elijah Muhammad
Elijah Muhammad was the second leader of the Nation of Islam. He is known as The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. He is believed to be a Prophet and a messenger of Allah. He first attended a lecture at the Temple of Islam in 1931. He was intrigued and decided to follow the faith. He studied under Wallace D. Fard Muhammad, the founder of the Nation of Islam. Event 2: Main Beliefs and comparison to mainstream Islam
Members of the Nation of Islam believe in/do are:
1. Read the Koran
2. There is one and only one God, Allah
3. Mohammad, the founder, is the Chief Prophet
Master Mohammad is believed to be the incarnated form of Allah. Differences between mainstream Islam and the Nation of Islam are:
1. Allah has never taken human form
2. Elijah Muhammad is not a prophet or messenger of Allah

Event 3: Preaching by Malcom X
When Malcolm leaves jail, he begins to look at the world differently and wants blacks to be proud of their heritage. Also concludes that since non-violence protests are not working, that if the whites fight, blacks should fight back. He also prefers his last name to be"X" in reference to his unknown ancestry, he meets Elijah and he becomes a minister.

Event 4: Malcolm X breaks away from Elijah
Malcolm finds out that Elijah has been an adulterer so he breaks off from the nation of Islam. He then goes on the sacred muslim pilgrimage to mecca to find his inner calling. There, he finds acceptance and peace and a good safe non-violent plan.

Event 5: The Million Man March
It took place in Washington D.C., it was organized by the leader of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan. This march was promoting African American unity and an improved lifestyles. Nearly 400,000 to nearly 1.1 million African Americans came to support this march.
