Birth
Christian Dior was born in Granville, France. His parents were Maurice Dior, and Isabella Dior. He was the second child of five. All his siblings names were Catherine, Raymond, Jacqueline, and Bernard. -
Childhood
When Dior was young he moved to Paris where he spent his childhood. He was only five-years old when they moved. -
Enrollment
In 1925, Dior enrolled at the 'Ecole des Sciences Politiques' to become a politician like his father wanted. Even though he enrolled at this school, he really wanted to be a fashion art designer. -
Graduation
Dior graduates from 'Ecole des Sciences Politiques' in 1928. After his graduation, he opens a small art gallery with money his father gave him. -
Closing of Art Gallery
In 1931, he was forced to close the art gallery. The same year his mother and older brother lost their lives. This was also during the time that his father's business was lost because of financial problems. -
Job
In 1935, Dior got a job illustrating the magazine Figaro Illustre'. -
Return to Paris
Finally, in 1940, he returned to Paris where he was hired by Couturier Lucien Lelong. -
Concentration Camp
Dior's sister was working for the French Resistance.During this time, she was captured and sent to a concentration camp, but survived. She was released in 1945. -
The Travel to Italy
After being on the cover of Time Magazine, Dior traveled to Italy to go on vacation in the town of Montecantini. -
Death
He had his third heart attack at 52 and died. His body was flown back to Paris. 2,500 people came to his funeral. He was buried in Cinetie're de Callian, Invar, France. After his death, his brand earned more than $20 million annually. -
Book
The National Gallery of Victoria published The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture. This book showed photos of the French fashion house over the years. -
Why is Dior important?
Christian Dior was a French fashion designer whose creations after World War II were very popular. A contribution that he brought to the world was that he brought a big deal of fashion. I hadn't really heard of Christian Dior until this project. -
