Lindbergh took on Orteig's and took off from aa field near NYC on his plane the Spirit of Saint Louis at 7;52 am to make the journey no man has ever made. -
Takeoff!
The flight had been postponed for a few days because of the bad weather but on May 20,1927, the sun was present so it was time to fly. He started the engine at 7:40 and took off at 7:52 am. He made it over the telephone wires by twenty feet and he was off! -
After the Flight
After 33.5 hours and 3,600 miles Lindbergh landed in Paris Fance at 5:21 pm New York time. He was greeted by parades awards and parties. -
Reaching the European Coast
Lindbergh was flying 200 feet above the water when he saw the first fishing boat. He flew coser to the boat and asked the man to poin towards land. But he could not speak english so he moved on. Soon he saw a rough coast and knew that he was reaching Ireland. -
The Landing
He passed over London and soon saw Paris. His landing went as normal. But the people around him were going crazy. They saw something in him that they allso saw in themselves. A sense of adventure and that would change his world forever. -
Meeting Anne Spencer Morrow
He met her in Mexico and married her in 1929. He taught her how to fly and they went on many expeditions together. -
Inventing the Artificial Heart
Charles Lindbergh invented the first artificial heart for a surgeon named Alexis Carrel. This is relevant today because we still use the artificial heart for medical purposes. -
The Kidnapping
On this date, Lindbergh's son Charles Augustus Jr. was kidnapped from their home in New Jersey. While Lindbergh was in the house. They found the child's body ten weeks later and arrestesd and executed Bruno Richard Hauptmann for the murder. -
