Community Service Organization
Cesar got his first steady Job. He became a staff member of the Community Service Organization, which is a group that helps protecting the civil rights of the Mexican Americans. The group fought discrimination by encouraging Mexican Americans to register to vote. -
Work
Cesar worked for organization while he and Helen had eight children. They were not rich, but they had enough money to pay the bills. They still had a few hundreds dollars in the bank. -
Quit Job
Cesar have to sacrifice his only work to keep his family and him alived. He resigned from his job and set out to rganize a farm worker's union. He spent many nights with Helen talking about this situation and she support him, so he took a big step. -
Traveled to persuade Mexican American workers to join the Union
Cesar traveled all over California just to get a chance to talk to the workers. Cesar and his fellow workers officially founded the union. The Growers where being rude and did many hurtful ideals like spraying pestisides and hiring guards to harassed the workers. They treat their worker improperly. -
United Farm Workers Association
Cesar still just had a few thousand members. The workers starded visiting Cesar. The Mexican American workers where excited with this ideal of joining the Union. From time to time, many workers joind the Union and is ready to help Cesar. The public did not approve of violence, Cesar planned to use negotiations, strikes, and boycotts to fight the growers. -
Started a boycott of California grapes
Cesar decided to start a boycott of California grapes. The public became upset by the violent tactics of the growers. Later on, more and more people began to support the striking laborers. Cesar told the people to stop buying California grapes as a way of supporting for the workers. -
Upset
Cesar decided to go on a fast. He didn't like what the Mexican American workers were thinking. He was worried that the La Causa was losing sight of its goals. Cesar though of a way to make the union members stop and think. -
Some union members grew impatient
Union members have been without work for two years. They talk about using violence was to kill a few growers. Cesar didn't like this ideal and he feel ill. He knows that using violence is not a kind of way to archive his goals. He feel wearily about this situation. -
First union contract
The California grape growers gave in. They signed the first union contracts with farm workers. It had been a long and bitter battle. The workers were pleased to here this great news but it isn't over yet for Cesar. -
Continued to fight
Cesar still fight until all the Growers would signed the contract for all the Mexican American workers all over the world. His goal was to make all the workers have a fair rights and should be treated properly so they could get paid in good wages. -
Cesar Chevez death
Cesar Chavez was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist, who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. Everyone is proud of what he did to help Mexican American workers fight to have their rights.
