Holden agrees to write a paper for Stradlatter, he writes about his dead brother allies mitt. Stradlatter calls the paper bad, which causes Holden to become angry and storm out. -
day 1
Holden sees a mother of one of his classmates. He lies to her and tells her he's very well liked when in reality no one likes him very much. -
day 1
gets in a cab to to a hotel, and asks the driver about where the ducks go when the lagoon freezes over. this will be important later. -
day 1
After checking into the hotel he goes down to a bar and chats up 3 women, constantly denoting how shallow and dumb they are. They eventually leave him and he goes back up to his room. -
day 1
on the way up to his room a man asks him if he would like a prostitute sent up to his room, he says yes. Though he is never actually able to have relations with her, and they just end up having a depressing conversation. -
day 2
the next morning he calls up His old friend Sally Hayes for a Date, and before he meets her he converses with two nuns at a restaurant, tries to find his sister at central park and the museum of natural history before finally going to meet sally. -
day 2
Then their parents arrive home, so holden has to leave. But before he does Phoebe give him her christmas money and Holden gives her his red hat. -
day 2
next he calls up carl luce who holden meets at a bar, carl grows weary of holden's remarks about his girlfriend and gay men. So he leaves. Leaving holden to get drunk by himself. -
day 2
at his date he suggests he and sally run away together, but when she refuses, Holden gets angry and calls her a "pain in the ass" -
day 2
needing to get out of the cold, he sneaks into his parents apartment. He then goes to speak with his younger sister Phoebe, where he tells her about his dream to be a catcher in the Rye. -
day 2
needing a place to stay, Holden calls his old english teacher mr. antonoli. Who lets him stay at his place for a night. before he goes to bed mr. antonoli lectures him about his future.Holden awakes to him stroking his hair which Holden perceives as a sexual gesture, so he runs out. he goes to sleep on a bench. -
day 2
holden calls up sally and her grandma picks up, obviously drunk he blabbers making a bad impression on her. He then goes to the frozen lagoon and wonders why there are no ducks, thinking if they have maybe just vanished. -
day 3
holden is then sent to a mental hospital -
day 3
Holden goes to phoebes school to leave her. a note saying he is leaving and never goin coming back and to meet him for lunch. At lunch phoebe says she wants to come with holden, this prompts holden to stay.
