He began his professional dancing at the age of 5. He performed tap dancing at the local beer gardens. -

Vaudeville act
He had danced professionally by joining a traveling group and then later that year danced as a Vaudeville Act. His successful career began when he was a nightclub and musical comedy performer. He performed almost only to african american audiences. -
Met his Manager Marty Forkins
Forkins wanted Robinson to choreograph solo tap dances at nightclubs. Robison took a break from tap dancing and served as a rifleman in the World War 1. He became a drum major and led the regimental band. -
"Blackbirds"
He danced on Broadway in the musical "Blackbirds" and choreographed and danced his famous steps dance. He earned his nickname Bojangles. -
