Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo travels to America
Sol Hurok was their manager and booked their first America tour. Diaghilev's company hadn't traveled to America in 20 years and Basil and Blum changed that. When they got to America, they performed for 3 million people. Later,Basil and Blum were not working so well together and Blum left the company. Basil and Massine fought over who should have the company name and Massine won to kept the name Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo and Basil changed hiss company name to The Original Ballet Russe. -
Massine's big problem
Massine lost rights to his choreography and his hands were tied unless he found a way to change that because if he didn't he would be out of a job and business and also his dancers would be out of a job too. He had to make 3 new and improved ballets that the audience would love so that he could make money by having a big audience come to his shows. -
World War II was declared
Most Russians didn't have all the right papers to leave the country. They luckily got on a boat to America and both companies were able to get on the boat. Since they had traveled to America they had no rehearsals because they had nowhere to practice, but Massine's company had a show that night when they got to America. -

Hurok and Basil conflict
Basils company started having difficulties finding work after 2 years. Hurok was done with Basil and said he was "one of the most difficult people to work with". Basically Basil's company had no work and he was not able to return to London, so he had to do something because if he didn't his company would be over so he took his company on a Latin America tour. Hurok came back but that was a bad idea so he left again and so did dancers. His last performance was November 1948. -
Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo was successful
The ballet Russe de Monte Carlo was doing good. They got to experience the Hollywood glamour and Massine was bringing in a lot of money and lost attention to the choreographic touch, so Massine hired a American choreography named Agnes de Mille. Agnes de Mile choreographed "Rodeo" a old American tradition.
