  • Harold starts high school

    Harold starts high school
Harold is 14 and is starting high school this year, so his mother is taking him out for yearly back to school shopping. However, Harold is concerned about the graphic t-shirts that his mother is choosing for him, and wants something "not child-ish." His concern represents Erickson's Identity v.s. Role Confusion stage. Harold is trying to find his identity or role in society at this stage. If he dresses "to child-ish," he will be left with role confusion in the social hierarchy of high school.

Harold just won't put a ring on it
Harold is 25 and has been in a relationship with Sarah for 2 years now. They are in love, and Sarah has been obviously noting that she wished to be married by now. However, Harold fears that he just isn't ready to commit. According to Erickson's theories, Harold is in the Intimacy v.s. Isolation stage. Based on this, if Harold does not commit to the relationship, he risks isolation and losing the love that he has with Sarah.
