Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte was born on November 15, 1915. He was born in Valparaiso, Chile. His father was Augusto Pinochet Vera, and his mother was Avelina Ugarte Martínez. -
Start Of Military Career
Pinochet entered the Chilean war academy at age eighteen in 1933. After four years there, he graduated as a sub-lieutenant. He never saw combat, but he still rose quickly through the ranks of the military and was soon commander of a detention camp -
Married Life
Pinochet married Lucía Hiriart, and stayed with her for the rest of his life. They got married on January 30, 1943. With Lucía, he had five children - Ines Lucía, María Verónica, Augusto Osvaldo, Marco Antonio, and Jacqueline Marie. -

According to some sources, Pinochet was stationed in Quito, Ecuador in the 1950s. During his time there, he met a lady named Piedad Noe. Then, nine months later, he found out he had a son named Juan. -
Military Promotion
In 1973 before the military coup to overthrow President Allende, Pinochet was promoted to Commander-in-Chief of the army of Chile. Allende was the one who promoted him, just eighteen days before Pinochet overthrew him. He stayed in this position even after he resigned from the president position. -

Chilean Presidency
Pinochet was the official president of Chile from December 17, 1974, to March 11, 1990, but was more of a dictator. He decided to institute a new Constitution in Chile, resulting in a ban of all left-wing parties, and allowing Pinochet an extra eight years in office. These things gave him more presidential power. -
Criminal Charges
On January 20, 1998, the Communist Party filed criminal charges against Pinochet. This one was for human rights violation during his time as president. Many other charges from many other organizations came after, but Pinochet never served time for his acts. -
Arrest In London
While traveling to the UK for medical treatment, General Augusto Pinochet was arrested in London on October 17, 1998. Arrested under an international arrest warrant given by Baltasar Garzón of Spain, he was put in house arrest. Some of the charges were torture of Spanish citizens and the assassination of Carmelo Soria. -
Death Of Augusto Pinochet
Pinochet died on December 10, 2006, in the Santiago Military Hospital with his family. He died a week after having a heart attack. This ended a long, ninety-one-year life in La Reina, Chile.
