Contribution to Sociology
Comte was able to contribute to the world of Sociology by giving a new way of looking at the science of society. He came up with theories such as the Law of Three Stages and Positivism.
These helped to rethink they way people saw the past of society and to help foresee the future for it as well.
Positivism specifically contributed towards many things because it told to look at everything in a strict intellectual way. Emphasizing on observation and the classification of facts. -
Auguste Comte January 20th, 1798
Auguste Comte, real name known as Isidore-Auguste-Marie-Francois-Xavier Comte, was born in Montpellier, France on January 20th, 1798. He was a French philosopher who was best known as the "founder of sociology and of positivism". He did not actually create the thought of sociology but helped contribute to it. -
Positivism- 1826
Auguste Comte was best known for his development of a system he called "system of positive philosophy". Today it is known as Positivism. Positivism is a means of using scientific evidence to discern causes for human behavior. He developed this system that uses logic, mathematics, and combined with sensory experience to better understand human relations and actions. He began giving a series of lectures to audiences to teach his system, but soon after he suffered a severe nervous breakdown. -

Break down recovery/ Publishing-1829-1830
After his nervous breakdown in 1826, he was then hospitalized until his recovery in January of 1829. He was able to recover with the help of his wife at the time, Caroline Massin.
Once he was recovered he started his second set of lectures to continue his teachings on Positivism. He then spent the next 12 years working on his 6 volumes on his Course on Positive Philosophy. (1830-1842) -
Law of Three Stages
Here is a chart to show an examples of how Comte broke down the history of society into three stages. He came up with this concept during his time of writing The course in Positive Philosophy. He called this Law of Three Stages. The main aim of this concept is that it provides the basis for sociological thinking. -

The end of his life- 1857
In 1845 Comte met his new lover, Clotilde de Vaux. He looked up to her because she was an inspiration to his Religion of Humanity. Only a year into their affair did he loose his love. With her passing came a devotion from Comte to begin his major publish of his four volume System of Positive Polity. This completed his formulation of sociology.
He was residing in Paris when he passed away from stomach cancer on September 5th, 1857. He is buried in Pere Lachaise Cemetery next to his mother. -
