Childhood (1948-1960)
~Born 15/2/1948, Stockholm.
~Immigrated to USA (Queens) in 1951
~Began drawing as a kid
~Had a game with his mom about turning a scribble into a drawing.
~Wanted to be a cartoonist
~When he was 10, he asked his mother to buy him a book on how to draw cartoons, she bought it with the promise that he would make profit or benefit out of it.
~He was inspired by the magazine MAD. It was an influence for his work. -
Family
~Both the father and mother survived the holocaust, they were in Auschwitz. Vladek(1906-1982):
~He was a wealthy textile salesperson and manufacturer in Poland.
~Before WWII, he worked in the diamond and garment trade business. Anja (1912-1968):
~Suffered from depression.
~Commited suicide in 1968 Richieu (Brother) (1937):
~Was poisoned by an aunt before the nazis came to take them away. -
Studies
~1965-1968: He attended the State University of New York. Didnt get his degree because he left the college after her mothers suicide in 1968.
~1965: Graduated from High School of Art and Design -
Writing Style
