ANTHONY IS BORN
Philip Anthony Hopkins was born in Margam, Port Talbot, Wales December 31st, 1937. He is son of Muriel Anne and Richard Arthur Hopkins (both dead), a baker. His mum was distant relative of William Butler Yeats, an Irish poet. -
CHILDHOOD
Hopkins had a difficult childhood; he often felt isolated and lonely because of his dyslexic. Although he studied piano and could draw well, Hopkins didn't excel at Cowbridge Grammar School. The famous actor and fellow Port Talbot native Richard Burton inspired Hopkins. At the age of fifteen, after getting Burton's autograph, Hopkins decided he wanted to be famous. -
TEEN YEARS
Hopkins dropped out of school at age seventeen and enrolled in a drama class at a local YMCA. Skilled at the piano, he earned a scholarship to the Cardiff College of Music and Drama, where he studied for two years. After two years of military service, Hopkins worked in theater. In 1961 he received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England. -
PROBLEMS WITH ALCOHOL
During his life, he had different problems with alcohol. In 1960 he was working on a performance called "Macbeth" in the National Theatre and he arrived drunk to it, and after waking up one day in a hotel room in Arizona with no idea how he got there, he stopped drinking in 1975. -
YOUNG-ADULT YEARS
After graduating in 1963, Hopkins worked at several different theaters before applying to the famous National Theatre in 1965. He was invited to join the company and remained a member until 1973. -
LOVE
Hopkins started his love story with Petronella Barker on 1967. They had a daughter called Abigail Hopkins a year later. In 1972 they broke up. His second marriage was with Jennifer Lynton from 1973 to 2002. Finally, he started a relationship with Stella Arroyave in 2003 until now. -
AWARDS
Anthony Hopkins has won an Academy Award (an Oscar) to the best actor in the film "The Silence of the Lambs". He has won other prices and he has been nominated several times to the Oscars and to other different awards, such as the Golden Globes. -
FAME
Hopkins started being famous in 1991 with the film "The Silence of the Lambs". He has appeared in many other famous films, such as "Hitchcock" (2012), "Hannibal" (2001), the "Thor" trilogy (2011, 2013, 2017), "Transformers: The Last Knight" (2017)...
