Alexandre moved away from his family, off to Paris to pursue literature. He became a scribe for the man who later became King Louis Philippe. There, he began to write plays of all genres, comedies, dramas, and romantic stories. -
Dumas Marries Ida Ferrier
After he has already had one son with Labay, he later married an actress by the name of Ida Ferrier. Even after he marries her, he continues to have affairs with other woman besides his wife. He even had a known daughter out of wedlock, and most likely other children that were not made public knowledge. -
The Chateau de Monte Cristo was Built
Named after one of his most popular books, the Count of Monte Cristo, Dumas built this mansion in Port Marly, Yvelines, France. It was supposed to be a home to Alexandre, and it was for awhile, but creditors began to chase after him. He was forced to flee the country, but fortunately never ceased his writing. -
Alexandre Faces his Death
Dumas died in the home of his son in Puys, France, and was buried in the town he was born. However, in the year 2002, his body was moved to the Panthéon in Paris. This was done so he could rest near other French literary legends.
