Birth
Alexandre Dumas was born in Villers-Cotterêts, France. He was the third child born to Marie Louise Labouret and Thomas Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie. His father was a military General under napoleon. The name Dumas was adopted from Alexandre's grandmother. -
Writing Career
Twenty years later, he moved to Paris to start his career in literature. His romantic writing style is often compared with that of his rival, Victor Hugo. Two of his most successful novels are The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Mosketeers. -
Personal Life
Dumas and Marie Laure Catherine Labay had a son also named Alexandre. His son emerged into literacy as well. Dumas married Ida Ferrier but cheated on her with other females. He also had a daughter, Marie Alexandrine, outside of his marriage. -
Death
He died at his son's home in France. he was buried in the cemetery of Villers-Cotterêts but later moved to the Panthéon in Paris, next to Victor Hugo and Emile Zola.
