    The ordinary world is the world that the hero lives in. It is the regular life they live daily everything is predictable. Santiago lives his life as a shepherd. His parents wanted him to be a priest. Santiago is very independent hence why he wants to be alone with his sheep.
  • Call to Adventure

    Call to Adventure
    The call to adventure is when the hero is taken away from his ordinary life to start his adventure.
    Santiago dreams of adventure he yearns to find the hidden treasures in Egypt. He will travel all that way just to hope that there is treasure there waiting for him.
  • Acceptance of Quest

    Acceptance of Quest
    When the hero accepts the quest he can then move on to start his quest.
    Santiago undergoes a great loss, he has to sell his beloved sheep in order to fund his trip to Africa.
  • Refusal

    Refusal
    this is when the hero has to A) Take the quest or B) deny the quest. In a way, you could say that Santiago experienced refusal in is quest. The refusal being him realizing that he has no money to go to Africa. He will have to undergo a loss in order to fund his journey to Africa
  • Entering the unknown

    He starts his journey, he leaves his ordinary life. He will enter a new world. He doesn't know what will be ahead of him in Africa. He could end up lost in Africa without any treasure. He doesn't know what will be on the other side.
  • Supernatural Aid

    Supernatural Aid
    Supernatural aid is not always magical it is “above the laws of nature.”(Campbell). They help the hero, they bestow wisdom upon the hero.
    Santiago's supernatural aid comes long before the quest.Santiago meets Melchizedek, an old king who teaches him to follow his personal legend. A personal legend is what you want the most out of life. The personal legend is very important because thought the book it is referenced many times.
  • Talisman

    Talisman
    A Talisman is something the hero receives in his journey. Usually the talisman helps the hero in his journey.
    Santiago's journey he has a vision of an Invading army. In a way this is a talisman because it helps him tremendously. Ultimately he becomes counselor for his foreseeing of the event.
  • Helpers

    Helpers
    This is a necessity the helper assists the hero by providing them with worldly wisdom.
    In this story he meets very many helpers but one of the main helpers is the gems shop owner. He allowed Santiago to work at the gem shop. This act allowed him to save up money for his trip.
  • Ordeal

    Ordeal
    This is the climax of the story, what the hero has been waiting for thought the whole journey
    The climax of this story is when Santiago reaches the treasure and there is nothing there. Thugs assault him and steal his belongings.
  • Reward

    Reward
    Every hero has a reward at the end of his journey. It is why the hero went on the journey. During his journey he does receive his reward. During the assault one of the violators says the treasure he is looking for is in a church in Spain. He knows the exact church he is talking about. Santiago goes to the church and digs up the treasure he was always looking for.
  • Master of two worlds

    The hero's return to there old world with new views from his Athere adventure.
    After he gets the treasure his goal is to go back to his "second" world and show his love Fatima his riches he have achieved thought his journey.
