    Eric enlisted in the armed forces in Ipswich. His regimental number was 4355.
  • Travel

    Eric embarked on the star victoria at Fremantle and disembarked just over a month later at Suez, Egypt. He then went on to England
  • Transfer

    He transferred to the engineering depot at Parkhouse.
  • France

    Eric headed for France and arrived at Abbeville.

    1917-1918

    The next 12 months of Eric's life is very lacking in detail, however, there is evidence of his 5th division involvement in numerous large battles.
  • Eric falls ill

    Eric fell ill with bronchitis and pleurisy. He then embarked at Rouen on the Aberdonian for England. Shortly after he was admitted to the Bethnal Green military hospital.
  • Overseas Training brigade

    Eric was sent to a new overseas training brigade at Perham Downs, England.
  • Three weeks leave and ACCS

    Eric commenced three weeks' leave, before rejoining his unit in France for the last month of the war. He then remained in France for the next few months. During this period he was detached for 6 weeks to attend the Australian Corps Central School.
  • Arrival in Southhampton

    he arrived in Southhampton, to engage for two months in what was described as non-military employment. He attended an advanced telegraphy course, while still being paid full military rates.

    Back home

    He embarked for Australia aboard the Orita and landed in Sydney months later.
  • Discharge

    Eric was discharged from the A.I.F in Brisbane.
  • Date Of Death

    At the age of 104, Eric died at the RSL nursing home Pinjarra Hills. His final resting place was Balmoral Cemetery where his father had been buried ninety-five years earlier.
