He was born in Zundert
He was the oldest brother out of his 7 siblings.He got his name from his grandpa.From a young age he showed melancholy tendencies and early psychological problems but also a love for art and paintings. -
His first paintings
At the age of 27 he starts his first painting lessons with Anton Mauve but doesnt get along with him and decides to continue by himself.He was really inspired by the painter Jean-François Millet.One of his first paintings is The potato eaters. -
His trip to visit his brother in France and his first contact with impressionism
He had a really close bond with his brother Theo.He was one of the few people that stayed with him till the end.They also exchanged many letters when they where apart(about 650!).After visiting him he decides to stay with him for some time.While being there he meets many impressionists(Edgar Degas,Camille Pizarro, Paul Gauguin and Toulouse Lautrec) and gets affected by the movement of impressionism. -
His trip to south france
Two years later he visits south france and he gets inspired by the life of the citizens and creates many paintings.There he invented his famous painting technique and sells his first and probably last painting -
The accident with his ear
As he stayed some time to south france Paul Gauguin a friend of his visited him and decided to stay with him for some time.One day these two had a serious fight.Vincent was so angry that he cutted of his ear and ended up in the local hospital. -
His mental illness
It was known that Vincent suffered with mental illnesses and mostly depression.A year after the accident he gets into Saint Paul psychiatric center and stays for one year.There he paints about 150 paintings.His most famous painting while in the asylum is the Starry Night. -
After leaving the asylum
After one year Vincent leaves the asylum and gets medical help by Paul Gasset.At that time he didnt paint any paintings.The only painting he did make is the portrait of Gasset. -
His death
On July 27 as vincent was having really hard times with his illness he shot himself in the stomach and died two days after.
