  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The battles of Lexington and Concord fought on April 19, 1775, this kicked off the American Revolutionary War. Hundred of British troops marched from Boston to nearby Concord in order to seize in arms. This is important because it started the revolutionary war.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    This battle occured in September and October 1777, during the second year of the American Revolutionary War. This included two critical battles, fought eighteen days apart and was a victory for the Continental Army. This is important because it was a critical turning point in the Revolutionary War.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    General George Washington, commanding an army of 17,000 French and Continental troops. This battle against British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and about 9,000 British troops at Yorktown. This is important because it is the most important battle of the Revolutionary war.
  • Northwest Ordinance

    This was adopted in July of 1787. Adopted by the confederation congress, it explained a government for the Northwest territory. There was even a method provided for admitting new states. This is important to U.S History because this is how we spread our people and get the land.
  • Lousiana Purchase

    The Lousiana Purchase, in 1803 Thomas Jefferson decided to purchase approximately 827,000 square miles. Jefferson paid a whopping 15 million dollars for this. There were arguments as to if a president could buy land but he did it anyways. This purchase is important because it nearly doubled the size of the U.s
  • Missouri compromise

    This was an effort to keep slaves and freed states equally. The Missouri compromise was passed to admit Missouri and Maine. Missouri would be a slave state and Maine would be freed. This is important because it was one in many attempts to keep peace.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    This is a policy known as the U.S policy toward the Western Hemisphere. It states that the United States will not tolerate further colonization or puppet monarchs. This is important because it declared that the old world and the new world had a different system and they must remain in different spheres. The United States would not interfere in the internal affairs and the United States recognized and would not interfere with existing colonies.
  • Nullification Crisis

    The nullification crisis is the confrontation between the state ot SC and the federal government. This was another attempt to declare null and void within the state the federal Tariffs of 1828 and 1832. This was important to the United States because it let us figure out how our economics are within each person and how much taxes can be afforded
  • Texas Annexation

    The texas annexation was the annexation of the Republic of Texas. this first was owned by Mexico but texas declared their independence from Mexico and wanted to become a US state. This is important because This soon led to Mexican-American war about a river was Mexicos' true border.
  • Oregon Treaty

    The Oregon treaty is a treaty between Britain and the United States. This established the 49th parallel as the border between the two countries. Taking place on June 15, 1846, this was important to us because it showed that the United States was willing to fight for westward expansion. Willing to fight for manifest destiny.
  • Mexican Session

    The mexican cession is a term that refers to all the land surrendered or taken by the United States from Mexico. This was towards the end of the war and Mexico couldn´t take anymore. The terms of this were in the Treaty of Guadalupe. This is important to US history because we go another 525,000 square miles added to our country.
  • Compromise of 1850

    The Compromise of 1850 was a document that consists of five laws that were passed in September of 1850. These laws defused political arguments between slave and free states on the territory. This also stopped the slave trade in Washington dc. This is important because this was an attempt to keep peace.
  • kansas-nebraska act

    This act was passed by the U.S Congress on May 30, 1854. This allowed the population to decide if they wanted slaves or not within their borders. Also was served to appeal the Missouri Compromise. This is important because this was one of the main ordeals in the cause of the Civil war.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    This was a time full of violence and hurt. Kansas streets flooded with angry riots and outbreaks. Nothing but violent civil acts. This is important because Kansas was then admitted to the Union as a freed state. This happened between the years 1854-1861.
  • John Browns raid on Harpers ferry

    John Brown was an abolitionist who led 21 men down the road to Harper's ferry in what now is West Virginia. They had a whole plan to take down the federal armory and ignite a nationwide uprising against slavery. This failed, but Brown´s dream was realized and slavery was illegal.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    This was a bombardment of Fort Sumter near Charleston area in South Carolina. The return gunfire and subsequent surrender by the United States Army, this is what started the American Civil War. Happening in April of 1861, this was the first Confederate victory.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    This was the first major battle of the American Civil War. This was also known as a Confederate victory. Marking the first major land battle, the confederate victory gave the south a surge of confidence and shocked so many in the North, who then realized the war wouldn´t be easy but still had hope. This is important because it showed the north that the south had some fight in them and showed the north that they had to step up and fight for what they believe.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg. This was a battle fought on September 17th, between Confederate and the Union. This battle ended the Confederate invasion of Maryland. Also resulted in an Union Victory. This is important because this battle led Lincoln to write the Emancipation Proclamation and issue this document.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Issued by President Abraham Lincoln, the Emancipation Proclamation freed all slaves, in all states, although this did not give any African Americans rights, they were no longer being treated as property. This was signed on January 1st, 1863, and is important because it made all African Americans freed people. No more arguing over the slave and free states.
  • Battle of VIcksburg

    The battle of Vicksburg was the battle where the Union got full control of the Mississippi River and taking over and shutting down all confederates trade and transportation. This battle lasted for 47 days. This battle is important because the Union has a step above the Confederate now that they have control of Mississippi River.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    This was the turning point in the Civil War. Robert E. Lees plan to invade the North and force an immediate end to the war failed. The collison of two great armies at Gettysburg put an end to that plan. This battle is important because it flipped the whole civil war around.
  • Gettysburg Address

    The Gettysburg Address is a speech that U.S President Lincoln delivered during the American Civil war at the dedication of the Soldier's national cemetery in Gettysburg. This is important because Lincoln brought up the fact that we are not fighting just to preserve the Union, but we are fighting to bring equality to all of the United States citizens.
  • Shermans March to sea

    Union General William T. Sherman led 60,000 soldiers from Atlanta Georgia to Savannah Georgia. This was a 285 miles march. The purpose of this march was to frighten the Georgias civilian population into abandoning the Confederate Clause. It destroyed all civilian and military targets. This started on November 15 and ended on December 21.
  • 13th Amendment passed

    The 13th amendment abolished slavery. Lincoln passed this on January 31, 1865. This Amendment also abolished involuntary servitude, although you will still be punished for crimes. This is important because this officially freed all African Americans.
  • Presidential Reconstruction

    Andrew Johnson was the man behind this plan. All the land that was taken by the Union Army and distributed to the freed slaves will be reverted to its owner before the war. The whole idea of this is to unify the United States of America again.
  • Congressional Reconstruction

    This was the period after the civil war when the federal government attempted to enforce equal suffrage on the ex-Confederate states. In Alabama, this lasted for 7 years and was characterized by conflict and terrorist activity.
  • 14th Amendment passed

    The 14th amendment was passed as one of the Reconstruction Amendments. It stated that you are a citizen of the United States of America if you were born or naturalized here. This is important because this granted citizenship to all freed slaves as well.
  • 15th Amendment passed

    This was passed on February 3, 1870. This amendment states that the rights of citizens of the united states to vote can not be denied or abridged by the united states, by state, an account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. This is important because this gave African Americans the right to vote, although this led to what's called a ¨poll tax¨.
  • Plessy V Ferguson

    This was the U.S Supreme Court decision that upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation under the ¨separate but equal¨ doctrine. The case came from an 1892 incident in which African American train passenger Homer Plessy refused to sit in a car for blacks. This is important because it established racial segregation.
