  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    At the Boston Massacre, British soldiers were fighting with colonists. The British soldiers were being harrassed and feared for their lives. During this fight, five colonists were shot and killed. This event leads to even more ager toward the British soldiers and king by the colonists.
  • Revolutionary War Begins

    Revolutionary War Begins
    The Revolutionary war was fought over a period of 8 years. The Revolutionary War was caused by the Declaration of Independence that was sent to Britain. The thirteen colonies fought Britain against the freedom of the colonies. After 8 long years of war, the thirteen colonies claimed their freedom and won. The Revolutionary War is important because if we wouldn’t have fought in it or would’ve lost, we could still be part of England.

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was created because the American colonies disliked the way England treated them. Because of this, they created document that declared them free form British rule. The declaration stated the reasons for breaking their ties and signatures from the colonial congress members. The colonies knew that a war was going to start, but they needed freedom. The Declaration of Independance is important because it declared our freedom and we could finally be our own country.

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase from France was made by President Thomas Jefferson. It gave the United States the land between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains, and between the Canadian and Mexican borders. The purchase was important the United States because it expanded the nation territorially, economically, and politically. Additionally, the new land allowed people to move west and start new farms and businesses. (McDougal Littell: American History, 2008, pg 345-346)

    The Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears was the path that the Cherokee and other tribes took to move to the Indian Territory. After Andrew Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, native tribes had to and walk to a new home far away. The Trail of Tears is an important event in U.S. history because it changed our country. It made room for Americans to move into the Natives’ land, but many native died on the trek.   • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    The California Gold rush started when a carpenter saw a shiny stone in the American River. This discovery led to the movement to the west. Everyone wanted to move west to strike it rich. The miners did get rich, but the merchants got richer. The Gold Rush is important because it created a new community in the western United States. Before not many people lived there, but the Gold Rush changed everything. (McDougal Littell: American History, 2008, pg. 439-430)
  • The Fugitive Slave Act

    The Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive Slave Act was a law passed to ensure that runaway slaves returned to their owners. Southern slave captors were allowed to roam the north freely. They sometimes even captured free slaves. This law was important because it caused some people to join the abolitionist movement and that turned people against the southern lifestyle of slavery.     Uncle Tom's Cabin is Published
    Uncle Tom’s Cabin was a book published in the1852. It was about a slave who ran away with her child across the Ohio River. Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author, wrote the book because she was outraged by the Fugitive Slave Act. Popular in north, but angered southerners, this book was a best seller in its time. It is important because it caused people to see what slavery was like. Uncle Tom’s Cabin persuaded people to join the abolition. (McDougal Littell: American History, 2008, pg. 485)

  • The Attack on Fort Sumter

    The Attack on Fort Sumter
    Fort Sumter, located in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina, was a Union fort. Confederate troops attack Fort Sumter, but it stood no chance. The guns were facing the wrong way. After about a day and a half of cannon blasts, Fort Sumter surrendered. This was the beginning of the Civil War. The attack on Fort Sumter is important because it started the Civil War which was the war against slavery. So the start of the Civil War is important.
  • Abraham Lincoln Assasinated

    Abraham Lincoln Assasinated
    The 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was fatally shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth during a play in Ford’s Theatre. The surgeon general declared that he would not recover and subsequently die during the night. Flags flew at half mast, businesses were closed, and people who were over the moon about the end of the Civil war were taken back by the shocking assassination. This is important because it affected which presidents we would have in the future.

    The tragic death of Elvis Presley
    Elvis Presley died in his bathroom on August 16th, 1977. The cause of his death was an overdose of prescription drugs. The death or Elvis is important because many people felt attached to him because they listened to his music. It was also important because he was very famous and has a lot of fans that admired him.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    On this terrible day in 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because the United States stopped funding and exporting goods to Japan. Additionally, Japan had already been plotting to destroy the naval fleet at Pearl Harbor because it would help them secure their control of East Asia. 2,400+ Americans were killed, which caused Roosevelt to declare war on Japan. This event is important because many people were killed and it was an important moment during WWII.

    The Supreme Case:Brown vs. the Board of Education
    In the Brown vs. the Board of Education case, 5 school segregation cases came together as the case. “Brown” was an African-American girl who wanted to go to school closer to home but it was an all-white school. Her father and the NAACP sued to allow Linda Brown to go to the school. In the end, the law was overturned and all schools had to be desegregated. It was important because it allowed African-Americans to go to schools with white children and schools are still desegregated to this day.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. I Have a Dream Speech

    Martin Luther King Jr. I Have a Dream Speech
    Martin Luther King Jr gave the powerful and historic “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. The key message displayed in the speech is that all people are created equal. He felt that it had to be the case in the future, although it wasn’t at the time. He recited this speech because at the time African-Americans were separated from white people in everything. The famous I have a Dream speech is important because people began to accept people of a different skin color.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    Four commercial airplanes were hijacked by the al Qaeda terrorists on 9/11. Two of the planes flew into the World Trade Center. Resulting in 2,500 deaths and 2 burning buildings. Another plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The fourth plane flew into a field in Pennsylvania. September 11th is important because we lost a lot of innocent people and people died trying to save others’ lives.
