  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was an event that happened in 1770. It really affected the colonists oif Boston, because five people got shotfor trying to stand up to the British. To colonists, it stood as a symbol of tyranny in the colonies.
  • Declaration of Independence

    On July 4, 1776, the second continental congress wrote the Declaration of Independence. They wrote this document to free themselves from British rule. They were no longer part of the British Empire, but they were their own states now. This document also made our country what it is today and this document is why we have so much freedom in our country.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was a treaty from the French that President Thomas Jefferson bought in 1803. The purchase cost 15 million dollars or about 3 cents an acre.   • The Lewis and Clark Journey West

    The Lewis and Clark Journey West
    Meriweather Lewis and William Clark were assigned to an expedition of the Lousiana Territory by Thomas Jefferson. This expedition was very important because they made a map of the Louisiana Territory so when other explorers and people went west they could find where they are going.   • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears happened due to the Indian Removal Act made by President Andrew Jackson. Even though the Cherokee indians took the case to court and won it, the President still removed them form there area.   • The Donner Party

    The Donner Party
    There was a group of people that decided to try to take a shorter route to get to California. Unfortunately, they were trapped on a mountain during the winter.   • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    The California Gold Rush was a big event in our history. It allowed more and more people to explore west. The Gold Rush helped us grow economically and territorially. http://www.history.com/topics/gold-rush-of-1849
  • The Titanic

    The Titanic was thought to be the greatest ship ever made. Sadly, it sank three days after it set sail. 2,223 people boarded the ship on its first journey and when it sank only 32% made it onto lifeboats. This event was a big tragedy but it has taught us to be safe while traveling by sea.
  • World War I- Sinking of the Lusitania.

    World War I had many different big events in the six years it went on for but the biggest event was the sinking of the Lusitania. 1,200 people died on the sinking of the Lusitania. 128 of them were Americans. This was important because it gave us our first look at war with other countries in the 20th century.
  • World War II- Hitler's rule over Germany

    World War II was a big event in our country’s history. The war lasted from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945. Many countries were involved in this war like the United States, Germany, and Russia. The Third Reich was very devastating. Hitler became the dictator of Germany on August 2, 1934. He went on to rule Germany for 11 years. This war was important because it really gave us a quick look of how dangerous other countries could be.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was a big attack on a US naval fleet. Japan decided that they were going to attack the US cheap sort of way. They destroyed every ship on the shipyard. More than 2,400 Americans were killed that day. This event was our first real event of terrorism in our country known to date.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    In the early 1950’s schools were segregated. White kids and African American kids couldn’t go to school together. A man named Oliver Brown did not like segregation in schools so he fought this law in Topeka, Kansas. Brown amazingly won the case and because of that schools are no longer segregated today.
  • 9-11

    On September 11, 2001 terrorists took control of four airlines and crashed them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. On that day, about 2,500 people died. Even though it was a big tragedy, it brought our country together.
