    Hunting is a sport that many people believe is important. People started hunting at the beginning of time in order to have food to eat. There were no requirements that you must have a license to hunt, so people hunted all the time in order to have enough to eat. They used very different weapons than what we use today, like spears or knives. Hunting is an important sport because it helps and has helped many people survive.

    Flutes are beautiful sounding instruments that have changed a lot over time. The first flutes can be dated back 42,000 to 43,000 years ago. They were made out of wood for many years. The first flutes only had one piece to them. The creation of the flute was an important historical event because many people have grown to love the instrument.

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a historical event that created problems between Britain and the colonies. Colonists and Redcoats were standing in separate crowds, harassing one another. In what the Redcoats claimed was an act of defense, they opened fire, shooting into the crowd and killing 5 colonists. The event was used to fuel anti British feelings in the colonies. The Redcoats made a mistake that became a well known historical event.

    The Declaration of Independence was written as a document of freedom for the 13 colonies. On June 7, 1776, Congress appointed a committee to draft a Declaration of Independence. Then, on July 4, Congress took the document from Jefferson and adopted it. Congress liked the document because it stated that the colonies had rights that could not be taken away. The writing of the Declaration of Independence was an important historical event because it affected our country now and then.

    The Louisiana Purchase was a very important event in our country's history. It doubled the size of the nation, and it gave us complete control of the Mississippi River, as well. Additionally, we were able to send explorers into the new land to help us gain the information that we needed to move citizens out west. The Lousiana Purchase made a huge impact on our nation and its expansion.

  • The Lewis and Clark Journey West

    The Lewis and Clark Journey West
    The Lewis and Clark Journey began in the summer of 1803. Meriweather Lewis, William Clark, and their crew set out for a long and hard journey. Eventually, they met Sacagawea, who helped them throughout the rest of thier journey. The journey finally ended in 1806, with new plant and animal species recorded and new and accurate maps of the west.

    The Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears began in 1838. The Cherokee were forced out of their homes by the United States federal troops. From there, the Indians faced a long and hard journey to "Indian Territory." On the journey, a quarter of the Cherokees died from illness and injury. The Trail of Tears was a horrific experience for the Cherokee that was illegal and forced by President Jackson.

    The California Gold Rush began when someone discovered a little bit of gold on January 24th, 1848. In 1849, people from all over the world started coming to California looking for gold. However, the miners were not the ones who made money off of the gold, the merchants were because there was not many benefits to the miners, but the miners needed supplies so the merchants gianed wealth.

    The Fugitive Slave Act was a very important law in history. This law helped slaves in the North to be captured and returned to the South. Southerners liked this law because they wanted their property returned to them. Northerners, however, hated the law because they were required to help recapture slaves (Littell, American History, page 485). This law was important because it helped to expand the abolitionist movement in the North.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and published in 1852. This book was popular in the North because it told about the harsh reality of slavery. It caused the abolitionist movement to expand, which made the South unhappy (Littell, American History, page 485). This book was important because it helped the North in their abolitionist movement.

    Bleeding Kansas
    Bleeding Kansas started because of a disagreement between Kansas. There were both proslavery and antislavery people living there. After people illegally voted, Kansas became an overall proslavery state. Abolitionist John Brown led men in a massacre of proslavery neighbors. This started a civil war called Bleeding Kansas (Littell, American History, page 487). This is important because it decided what kind of a state Kansas would be.

    The attack on Fort Sumter was an event that made history. Lincoln had a big decision to make, whether to send supplies to Fort Sumter or to give in to the rebels. Once he decided to send supplies, confederate leaders took the chance and tacked the fort before the ships could get there with the supplies. The battle lasted for 34 hours before Anderson surrendered. The attack on Fort Sumter was important because it was the start of a historical event; the civil war.

    The first Kentucky Derby was a great day in horse racing history. It took place on May 17th, 1875. The horse that won was Airstides, and the jockey riding him was Oliver Lewis. The winner got $2,850. The first Kentucky Derby was important because the race has since become a yearly tradition that many people enjoy.

    The Supreme Court Case: Brown v. Board of Eduction
    The Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case was an important historical event. A little girl who was African American wanted to be allowed to go to a public school close to her. A group joined together to support her in court. The next year, public schools were ordered to open up to all children of all skin colors. The Brown v. Board of Education case was an important event because it changed the lives of all African American children in America.

    The death of Elvis was an event that caused an impact in many people’s lives. He was found dead on the bathroom floor. After being rushed to the hospital, Elvis was pronounced dead. After he died, the doctors said that an overdose of prescription drugs caused him to have a heart attack. The death of Elvis was an important event in history because since so many people in the U.S. were fans of his, their lives were forever changed.

    September 11, 2001
    The attacks on 9/11/01 made a huge impact on our country. Terrorists hijacked airplanes and used them as weapons to attack different locations in the U.S. The terrorists crashed into the World Trae Center and the Pentagon. This caused the United States to attack Afghanistan, and they later found and killer Osama bin Laden, the leader of the terrorist group. The terrorist attacks in September of 2001 caused a major war that is still going on today.

The day that Carrie Underwood’s first album came out was an important day because many people in America love her and her songs.
