On April 19, 1775 the "shots heard around the world" were fired at 5 a.m. marking the start of the American Revolution. After seven long years of war, the Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 by representatives of the U.S., Great Britain, Spain, and France.This is very important to our history because winning made the United States their own and seperate nation! -
United States Declares Independence from England
On July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Continental Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence. The reason the colonists did this was that they were getting taxed unfairly by Britain's Parliament. I think this is an important event in American history because we became a role model for other countries wanting to do the same thing. -
Constitution Signed
On September 17, 1787 the Constitution is signed by 38 of 41 delegates who were present at the end of the Constitutional Constitution in Philadelphia. This was an important event in American history because this document laid the basis for our new nation, and without this the new country could've just fallen back apart and we would've been back where we started- under somebody's control. -

Industrial Revolution
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, rural societies became industrialized. They also started to manufacture more efficiently with special-purpose machinery and mass production. Iron and textile business played a huge role in this time period. This is important to American history because this time period led to many inventions like the steam engine and record player. -
Louisiana Purchase
On April 30, 1803 the United States and France concluded negotiations for the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase was a huge land mass that would double the size of the United States. This purchase would then lead to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This is an important event in American history because this expansion doubled the size of the United States and let us explore and expand to new territories. -

United States Civil War
On April 12, 1861 the bloodiest four years in American history began when Confederate soldiers fire upon Fort Sumter. After four long years, surrender terms are finally signed on June 2, 1865. This is important to American history because this is another time in our history where we could've easily fallen apart and let the Confederates leave, but we stayed strong, remembering that we are stronger together than apart. -
Women Receive Voting Rights
On August 18, 1920 the 19th Ammendment is ratified in Tennessee, giving it the two-thirds majority of state ratification necessary to make it part of the actual United States Constitution. Women receiveing their voting rights is very important to American history because this was an accomplishment for women that would lead to many other of our rights to be recognized. -

Great Depression
From 1929 to 1939 America was in its deepest and longest economic decline. After the stock market crash in October 1929, consumers stopped spending, causing less demand for companies, making them fail, or lay off workers. By 1933, 13 to 15 million Americans were unemployed. In 1939, the economy turned around when WWII began. This is important to history because during that time period many organizations were created that still exist. -
Central High School is Integrated (Little Rock Nine)
On September 25, 1957 Central High School in Litte Rock, Arkansas is integrated. The nine students ("Little Rock Nine") were escorted into the school by the United States Army's 101st Airborne Division. This is an important event in American history because this was a huge step for African Americans at the time and this paved the way to integration. -
9/11
On September 11, 2001 Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia hijacked 4 U.S. planes and crashed two into both of the Twin Towers, one into the Pentagon, and one into a field in rural Pennsylvania. This had a huge impact on American history becuase we could've just crumbled and let the terrorists take over us, but we're stronger than that and we showed the rest of the world that. This also introduced a new type of warfare.
