Signing the Declaration of Independence
(Most important) I chose the signing of the Declaration of Independence because it gave us independence from King George III. It let us govern ourselves which helped us form a democracy. Not only did it give us freedom, it also listed what England was doing that we didn't like. Many people think it is the most important U.S. document. -
Lewis and Clark Expeditions
(Fifth most important) I chose this event because when this happened we gained more information about new land. We discovered new plants and animals. Also, we expanded the U.S. territory. Although Lewis and Clark never found a NorthWest Passage, they gathered great amounts of information. -
Battle of Gettysburg
(Second most important) I chose the Battle of Gettysburg because it was an important win for the North. It is considered the turning point of the Civil War. The battle was also a major loss for the South. This battle lead to the North winning the Civil War. -
Slavery is abolished
(Third most important) I chose slavery being abolished because it was a step closer to equality. Even though some people were against it, there were people who wanted equality and didn't care about race. This is only a step closer to equality because the proclamation only freed slaves in states of rebellion. Even after slaves were free other people still treated them like slaves. -
The Great Depression
(Eigth most important) I chose this event because it was a time when the U.S. was at a downfall. Afterwards, laws were made to keep it from happening again. It helped us make a better economic system. It made the government think more about spending money. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
(Nineth most important) I chose this event because it pulled us into WWII. It was a suprise attack and a lot of Americans died. Until Pearl Harbor we were trying to stay out of WWII. It was the first modern foreign attack on U.S. soil. -
Brown v Board of Education
(Fourth most important) I chose this event because it deals with segregation. The case ruled that segregation was unconstitutional in schools. Before, the rule was seperate but equal. Black children had to go to different schools and they got the old books when white children got new ones and things like that. -
Neil Armstrong on the moon
(Tenth most important) I chose this event because Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. This was an advancement in space exploration. This lead to more missions and more trips further into space. It put the U.S. ahead of Russia in the Space Race. -
9/11
(Sixth most important) I chose this event because after it happened, there was a lot more security in many places. 9/11 is considered a significant terrorist attack on the U.S. After the attack the U.S. came together to support each other. The U.S. showed that we will remember it but we won't be defeated. -
Death of Bin Laden
(Seventh most important) I chose this event because Bin Laden was a terrorist who planned 9/11. He was a leader of a main terrorist group. A lot of people were glad when he died. His terrorist group fell apart for a little bit after that.
