Birth
WEB Du Bois was born February 23, 1868 in the town of
Great Barrington, Massachusets. He was raised in a very strict manner, he had a daily routine, and would often plan his next day's activities on a piece of paper before he went to bed. -
College
Money was raised and donated to send Du Bois to Fisk University in Tennessee. He went here until 1888. This is where he experienced his first encounter with racism, as he grew up in a place where there was little, if any. -
Marriage
While teaching at Wilberforce University, Du Bois married Nina Gomer, one of his students. They had two children, a son who died as an infant, and a daughter. -
Trip Around the World
Du BoisTook a trip around the world, and visited China, Japan, and Nazi Germany. He came back to the US and told of the awful treatment of the Jewish. -
Second Mairrage
Marries Shirley Graham after his previous wife dies in 1951. She brought her son with her, who bonded well with Du Bois, and accepted his stepfathers last name. -
Africa
Du Bois was invited to Ghana, Africa to celebrate their independence, but wasn't able to go, because the US had confiscated his passport. When he got it back in 1960, he went to Ghana to celebrate the inaguration of their first governor. -
Death
Dies at age 95 of natural causes.
