The blue runners name is Norman and nickname is Nostrils. He come up to Charlie to congratulate him for his win at the race and warns him about Barlow who is a bully and how he thinks he is tough because he has done a bit of boxing. That's how they became friends -
Charlie gives his mum an envelope from Squizzy Taylor
The letter from Mr Taylor asked permission for his mum to give to Charlie, to do a job for Mr Taylor so Charlie earn a decent amount of money for his family. His Mum says no as she thinks that Mr Taylor is a criminal and told Charlie she knows a more responsible job someplace else. -
Charlie went to get wood from Mr Peacock, an old friend of his Dad
In exchange for raking Mr peacocks leaves in his yard he, gets to collect wood lying around. -
Norman meets Charlie at his house and they go out to have a game of footy
They go out to play a game of footy out in Barkly Gardens when Barlow and his mates (gang) chased them. -
Charlie meets Dolly at Squizzies place
Even if his mother said no to the job, when Charlie was supposedly going to school, instead went over to get the job from Mr Taylor. When he gets to Mr Taylor's place Dolly presented Charlie with a pair of new leather boots that she chose herself and was bought by Mr Taylor, as Charlie was the new runner -
He gets the envelope full of money from Mr Squizzy Taylor
He earns the money for the jobs he does for him. He gets really excited when he got his first wages. He had done many jobs for Mr Taylor by then -
He finds Mr peacock at his home, drunk over his mother, hurting her
Charlie got really angry when he saw this happen. He was so full of rage he wasn't thinking about what he was doing, brought out the cricket bat that they had from under the Charlie's bed and hit Mr Peacock, hard in the head, leaving him lying unconscious. -
Charlie runs his first Liquor run with his friend
They pick up the liquor from Jenkins in 22 goodwood street delivering it to 12 Erin street, where they mistakenly got scared when they spotted a copper, who actually worked for the person they where delivering the liquor to. -
Mr Redmond suggest that he could train Charlie as a boxer
Charlie agrees and the next day Mr Redmond sets him up with a training lists. -
Charlie and Normans parents go watch Norman play a footy match
Norman gets picked for a football team and goes to play a footy match with his new team. They give Norman encouragement and discuss tactics before the game. Charlie kept on looking at this girl on the opposing team, and also warned Mr Heath about Jimmy Barlow being tough when Mr Heath asked if he thought the opposing player (Barlow) looked tough. At the end, Normans team won because of him, after his dad told Norman to start thinking smart. Charlie focused on getting the opposing girls name. -
Squizzy Taylor, in a bad mood sends Charlie to collect money people owe him
He decides to be polite but firm as well so, people could have a reason of why they had to have the money over. He was successful with everyone expect whe he went to Fitzroy, to pick up money from the girl he saw at the footy match. -
Charlie tells Mr Redmond he wants to retire from boxing
He wants to retire because Alice who was the girl he met at Fitzroy to collect money from told him that she hates boxing. Mr Redmond then asks him if he could train him in running, for the Ballarat mile race that was coming up, which had a reward of money. This convinced Charlie to do training for running -
Barlow and his mates come and hurt Norman badly
While arriving back from their liquor run they bump into Barlow and his mates. They try to run away and Norman slips. Norman tells Cahrlie to go on, as Charlie finds a hiding place and watches Barlow and his mates bash Norman up badly. Charles then quickly takes Norman to the closest hospital by the trolley they were carrying liquor in
