Inigo was born in what is now called the Basque area of Spain. He was the youngest of thirteen children and when he was seven years old. -

Christopher Columbus' Voyage
Columbus sets sail with three ships: The Nina, The Pinta, and The Santa Maria. He intends to go to India but finds what is now the Bahamas. -

A Legend Dies
Leonardo da Vinci died of natural causes. We will mourn his loss as he was one of the most artistic human beings to ever be born. -

The Turning Point
In the month of May in 1521 there is a turning point in Ignatius' life. During the Battle of Pamplona, Ignatius gets hit with a cannonball and is sent to Loyola to recover. While there he is insprired by the book 'De Vita Christi' written by Ludolf of Saxony. -
Mar 25, 1522
A Life Changing Experience
Ignatius travels to the Benedictine Monastery, Santa Maria de Montserrat. There he then went to the city of Manresa and spent several months in a cave where he practiced very much prayer. This is where he made the spiritual exercises. -
Jul 31, 1556
Ignatius of Loyola Passes
Ignatius finally passes away. He had a fever and the day before asked for the last sacraments and a papal blessing. He then dies peacefully in prayer. -
Ignatius' First Step Toward Being a Saint
On this date in 1609, Ignatius is beatified which means he is one blessing away from being a saint. -
Ignatius is Canonized
Ignatius is canonized by Pope Gregory XV.
