Oscar Claude Monet was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840. to Adolphe and Louise Monet. Oscar was part of his original name, but he would later drop it to be know simply as Claude. Shortly after his birth his family would mobe to the Normandy adrea of France (Waldron 9-10 ). -

First Modern Olympic Games open
The first modern olympic games opend in Athens, Greece on April 6, 1896. Two hundred forty one athletes competed in 43 events including fencing, weightlifting and tennis. Monet dies
Monet dies on December 5, 1926 of lung cancer. Since his death, his home and grounds have been opened up to the public to tour the grounds. While Monet know had begin to develop a collection to donate he would die before the project was completed (Claude Monet).
