Cretion of the Printing Press
The Gutenberg bible was published on this day. This was the first book to be mass prouced for the public. The printing press allowed for information to be spread widely and quickly, which helped the common man to become educated. This decreased power fo the church. -

Martin Luher's 95 Thesises
When Martin Luther posted his 95 thesises against the church he started a refromation that would lead to a spliting in the church. The Catholic church would no longer hold all the power and people began to question the right to this power. This was the first time anyone would stray from the church's teaching opening the doors for anyone afterward. The Creation of the printing press years earlier allowed for these 95 thesises to be shared with the general population. -
Deism
Desim gained popularity in the 17th centery. The idea behind Deism is that God is a clock maker, he winds and sets the clock and then the clock is left to run. God no longer interfers after this point it is all up the human being to create his or her life. This went completely against the main church and the ideas that God was always present in one's life. It was so influential because it put the individual incharge of their life instead of depending or waiting for a God to do it for them. -
John Locke
On this day John Locke was born, This philosoph could probably be called the most influential to The United States. Based on his Natural Rights theory the Declaration of Independence was created. His idea that all men have the right to life, liberity, and property, would be used for hunderds of years in the future. -
First Salons
During this year the first salons of the Philosophis came about. In these salons the men would discuss the current state of thing and how their plight could be made better, They shared ideas, philosophsies, theories and such. They believed that political, religious and economical institutions should be reformed. -
Charles de Secondat, baron de Montesquieu
Montesquieu was another philoshph from the Age of Reason. He was involved in politics of the time. He published The Spirit of Laws which investigated the cultural aspects behind general laws. He was so influencial that he created the Seperation of Powers in the United State's Government. -
Voltaire
Voltaire was a writer, historian and philosopher. He published hundreds of works during his lifetime: poems, books, letters, scientific works, plays, essays, and novels. He was also influential in American politics with his support of individual freedoms. He supported freedom of religion, expression, trade. He was also in favor of a seperation of church and state. All of these taken into account when creating the United States. -
Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin would bring the ideas of the Age of Reson back to America. He was the Ambasitor to France during this time and he would sit in on the Salons and take in the ideas comeing form them. He was so influential because he was able to take these new and controversial ideas and create a new country with them. -
Adam Smith
Smith is considered to be the father of modern economics. He was a part of the Scottish enlightenment. His phylosophy on economy and coperations would be used for years to come and sparked the industrial revolution in Europe. -
The First Encyclopedia
Denis Diderot is credited with creating the first encyclopedia. This was the first book of compiled knowledge of the time. It allowed knowlege of scientific things to be spead around the world. It also brought together great mind of the time. -
Candide
Written by Voltaire, Cadide is a criticism on optimism. It was important in its time because it went against what everyone was thinking. That even though absolutly horrible things happing one can stay optimistic and believe the best in a corrupted world. -
Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations
This book became the Bible for industrial capitalists. It reached it's highest popularity during the industrial revolution when coperations were booming. This book stated the need for a free market and the idea of supply and demand.
