In the year 711, armies of Muslim Berbers invaded the Iberian Peninsula, taking over most of Spain. They held it for the next seven hundred years. In the events, the visigothic king, who ruled the area which the Muslims invaded, was killed. -

Spain takes back seville
In 1248, Christian armies under Ferdinand III of Castile take back Seville after 16 months of fighting, despite the attack of Muslim catapults, Greek fire, and bowmen who pierce armor. The Castilian forces included the urban militia. -

Christopher Columbus leaves spain
On the evening of August 3rd, 1492 Christopher Columbus left spain from Palos de la Frontera with three ships. Santa María, which was the main boat and and two smaller caravels, Pinta and Santa Clara. The first island they found was what the Bahamas is now. They found it on the morning on the 12th of October. -
War of Spanish Succession
From 1701 to 1714, the War of Spanish Succession was fought. It was fought between the Spanish people who were loyal to Philip V, France and the Electorate of Bavaria, against the Spanish loyal to Archduke Charles, the Holy Roman Empire, Great Britain, the Dutch Republic, Portugal and the Duchy of Savoy. Philips the 5th survived the war and remained king of france. -
Peninsular war
From 1808 to 1814, the Peninsular War was fought.The war began when French and Spanish armies crossed Spain and invaded Portugal in 1807. Then, in 1808, France turned on its ally which was Spain. The war was ended when the Sixth Coalition defeated napoleon and his crew. -
Transition to democracy
The Spanish transition to democracy was during the era when Spain moved from being under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco to a liberal democratic state. The reason that they switched is because of Francisco Franco’s death on the 20th of November, 1975. -
Spain joins NATO
In 1982, Spain joined NATO. Many political forces in Spain, mostly the socialists and the communists, did not agree that full membership would benefit the country's defense and foreign policy. On the opposite side of the discussion, they felt it would raise the level of tension between the rival power blocs and would make Spain a more likely target in any future conflict with the Soviet Union. -

Terrorist attack on atocha train station in madrid
In 2004, Islamic terrorists stroke the Atocha train station in Madrid with bombs, killing nearly 200. This was only 3 days before an election was going to be held for a change in government .This terrorist attack is considered the worst terrorist attack in the history of Spain and Europe as almost 1800 more people were wounded during the events. -
Spanish soccer team wins first world cup
In 2010, the male Spanish soccer team wins their first world cup. They beat the Netherlands 1-0. The goal scorer for Spain was Andrés Iniesta. This was a huge moment for Spain as Spain was going through an economy crisis.
