Columbus' First Voyage

Aug 3, 1492

-He wanted to find a water route to Asia and India for their spices and other riches.
-He is creaditied for finding the New World but, he didn't know it was the New World. He always thought it was India, why he called the Natives Indians.
-He brought back gold and other riches to the king and queen of Spain.
-He was the first to encounter the Native Americans.
-Columbus started the Spanish exploration in North America because, of al the things he found while exploring.
-He made four trips.

Cortes Voyage

Jan 1, 1519

-His wanted to find gold.
-Cortes conqured the Aztecs and the leader Montezuma.
-He explored Mexico.
-He brought back 6 million dollars worth of gold, which sparked interest of many people to explore North/South America.
-He brought back 99 tons of gold by 1870.

Pineda's Voyage

Jan 1, 1519

-He wanted to find a water source to the Pacific Ocean.
-The first person to map the Gulf Coast from Flordia to Texas.
-He could've possibly discovered the Rio Grand Canyon.
-His map of the coast led to others exploring the land on the Gulf Coast.

DeVaca Voyage Part 1

Jun 17, 1527

-De Vaca wanted to search for gold in Flordia.
-De Vaca's leader was Narves.
-They took 300 men with them on this expidition.
-Narves died.
-De Vaca got seperated from the group but, then reunited with 3 other suriviors.

DeVaca discovers Texas

Nov 6, 1529

-He encounters the Karankawas, Jumanos,and Couhiltecans.
-He traveled through New Mexico, Arizonia, California, West Texas, Central Texas, Galveston, and Mexico City.
-He lived eiht the Karankawas for four years but, was missing for eight years.
-He arrived here on Galveston in a shipwreck.
-The Indians gave him food, gifts, and water.

Fray Marcos and Esteban's Journey

Jan 1, 1530

-Fray Marcos and Esteban wanted to study the land.
-They explored Texas and New Mexico.
-Esteban was killed by the Zunis for demanding their food and women.
-Fray Marcos lies and reports seeing the most beautiful grand and golden city.

Moscoso' Expedition

Jan 1, 1539

-His leader was De Soto, he took over for him.
-De Soto died at the Mississippi river.
-He explored Flordia to Texas.
-He reported the same basic report that Coronado did which stopped exploraion for 150 years.

Coronado's Expedition

Jan 1, 1540

-He was in searcg for Cibola and Quivira.
-He discovered the Mississippi river.
-The Indian guide, Turk, lead them to the city Quivira.
-Turk was lying about Quivira so, they killed him.
-He reported that the land was harsh, no gold, and cruel Indians.
