Hernan Cortes was a Spanish conquistador who was inspired by Columbus' stories. He came to the Americas in search of gold and wealth, and created the fall of the Aztec Empire. He claimed to have found plenty of gold, which urged more Spanish exploration to occur. -

Alonso Álvarez de Pineda was a Spanish explorer who sailed the Gulf Coast. He was the first person to attempt to map the coast for further exploration. -

De Vaca Starts Expedition
De Vaca was a sailor who worked along Narvaes in his first Voyage to search for gold in Florida. -

De Vaca's Exploration
When on the Voyage with Narvaez, strong winds split the group. De Vaca's ship crashed in Galveston TX, killing many men. De Vaca then stopped the exploration and fought for survival with his few men still alive. They were found by Karankawas on the Island, who quickly fed them food and water. He became the tribe's Medicine man, and later escaped to be found by Spanish. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
Marcos was a priest sent by Mendoza to find gold-rich cities. He claimed to have found a mythical empire called the Seven Cities Of Gold. His rumor started Coronado's Expedition. Esteban was killed by natives in the process. -

Coronado's Expedition
Coronado was a Spanish Conquistador who went to find the mythical Seven Cities of Gold. He was unsuccessful, but successfully conquered the Zuni Tribes. When he came back, he said to have not found the Seven Cities of Gold, but did come with ALOT of gold. -

Moscoso's Expedition
Moscoso had attempted to discover more land and riches, but died from diseases later on. For the safety of themselves, his men dumped his body into the Mississippi River.
