John Wilson Marries Polly Hutchison
When Jack and Polly started courting, the Hutchison family treated Jack as one of their own. However, Jack stated if Polly didn't marry him, he'd blow his brains out and people were concerned with that statement. However they got married and spent their honeymoon in Dublin. John leaves Saskatoon and moves to Prince Albert to start a tomato growing business, however the business is unsuccessful. -
The War
John tries to enlist to fight in WW1 but is rejected because of his poor health. -
John joins RNWMP
After being rejected from the military John joins the RNWMP and becomes a Mountie. John is grateful for this position because in Saskatchewan wages are low and John is in need of employment. John also convinces himself joining the RNWMP might get him back to Scotland and this eases his conscious about abandoning his family. -
John moves to Blaine Lake
As a Mountie John gets relocated to Blaine Lake. Here he is responsible for keeping an eye on the Dukabors. Quickly, Jack becomes close friends with a family who also recently moved to the area, the Pattersons. John builds a connection with John Patterson's daughter, Jessie. -
John gets TB
John Wilson goes to the doctor after feeling ill for some time. Unfortunately, John has tuberculosis. As the months get colder, John can no longer support himself. Luckily for him the Patterson family has a soft spot for John and they take him in. Throughout time as Jessie nurses John back to health, they fall in love. -
John Proposes to Jessie
In the winter of 1918 John asks for Jessie's hand in marriage as he heals from TB. -
John Lies
John lies by writing elaborate letters to Jessie pretending to be his sister to get sympathy from his wife to be. -
Polly comes to Canada
Polly leaves her children home in Scotland and makes the journey to Canada. Polly hasn't heard from Jack in over a year now and she is worried about her husband. She is determined to find Jack and restore their happy life, or so she thinks. -
John's Drinking
John Wilson becomes a heavy drinker after Polly surprises him in Canada. Drinking is the only thing that eases his mind. However, over time people begin to notice this habit of his. -
Polly is Pregnant
Not long after Polly comes to Canada she finds John. John does not tell Polly about Jessie and pretends as if everything is fine. John acts like he is a good husband, and Polly becomes pregnant with their third child. -
Polly Learns about Jessie
While Jack is gone Polly sees a letter in her husband's jacket. She takes the letter and is confused when she learns it is written by a woman named Jessie. Polly soon realizes Jack is having an affair and is planning to marry this woman. -
Jessie is getting Impatient
John keeps pushing back his wedding with Jessie because of Polly's unexpected visit. Jessie's mother is slowing starting to disprove of her relationship to John and Jessie is getting tired of waiting. -
John Kills Polly
Jack takes Polly on a "road trip" and just before it gets dark he takes out his gun to shoot geese. He looks around carefully, making sure no one else is near and points the gun to Polly's head. He kills his wife so he is a free man who can marry Jessie. After Jack commits this crime he buries her in the culvert next to the road and sets his car on fire. -
The New Mrs. Wilson
Jack marries Jessie Patterson just days after Polly's murder. However, it is clear Jack is not in the best mindset. He looked nervous and pale, like he was going to be sick.
