Thinking that he was sure that he would die from the pendulum's razor, he entertains himself with the trajectory he has, but then he comes up with an idea, remembering that he has at his disposal some meat, food that he shared with the rats. He managed to sprinkle some meat on his body, and the rats jumped on him, eating and gnawing on the rope that has him tied. -

Once released, the pendulum stops and the man thinks he is being watched. The room heats up its environment and changes shape by reducing its size, causing the walls to close around the man and pushing him to the edge of the impending moat. When he finds himself with no more room to flee, about to throw himself into the pit, a hand grabs him and saves him. -
The Gold Bug 1
This story is about a man named Legrand. In company with his slave Jupiter, he goes in search of a treasure that he discovered when he found a beetle and when he showed his best friend a drawing of it, he discovered that the beetle was shaped like a skull. Legrand showed him the beetle and suggested that he accompany him on an expedition to Jupiter. The idea seemed absurd to him but he accompanied him. -

After two hours of traveling they reached the place where Legrand wished to be; At that site he asked Jupiter to climb a tree taking the beetle with him, Jupiter went up and found a skull. Legrand told him to drop the beetle out of the skull's left eye and Jupiter obeyed and dug until they finally found skeletons and a trunk that had a treasure. -

Legrand looked again at the parchment and realized that the figure that his friend was looking at, was indeed a skull, but that he had not drawn it, and when he put it in contact with the heat they revealed the secret of said treasure, that had something to do with a well-known pirate and that the skeletons they had found were possibly of the people who helped dig the hole. -
The Facts in the Case of Mr Valdemar 1
This is the story of a doctor who knows mesmerism and wants to experience what it will be like to hypnotize someone who is dying. This man has hypnotized before but not someone with those conditions. Mr. Valdemar is 24 hours old and they decide to do the mesmerism experiment. Half an hour before the hour in which he must die they begin the experiment and are successful. -
The Facts in the Case of Mr Valdemar 2
Next to this doctor there are two more doctors who were attending to Mr. Valdemar, and when they see that the experiment is successful, they feel a little intrigued and quite affected. Mr. Valdemar lives a little longer than expected, only a few days. -
The Facts in the Case of Mr Valdemar 3
They ask Mr. Valdemar questions and he only replies that he is dead, that they leave him alone. Finally they take him out of that trance and what was still believed to be the body of Mr. Valdemar, becomes a liquid mixture of putrefaction.
