Savion Glover was born in Newark, New Jersey. His grandfather was Bill Lewis, a big band performer. His great grandfather was a short stop in the Negroe Leagues. -

Playing in The Band
Savion was a drummer in a group called "Three Plus One." While in the band, he insisted that he dance while playing his drums. -
The Tap Dance Kid
This was Savion's Broadway debut at the age of 10. Directed and choreographed by Danny Daniels. The show was considered mediocre at best. -
Tap Teaching
Savion Glover began teaching tap at the young age of 14. He considers his style to be "young and funk," and he says he wants to bring back the feeling in tap that was lost over it's life through each new revival. -
Jelly's Last Jam
This was Glover's second Broadway appearance, age 15. He was nominated for a Tony, and was one of the youngest people ever nominated for the award at the time. -
Dance Magazine Award
Dance Magazine gave Savion their award for choreography.He is the youngest recipient of this award in N.E.A. history. -

Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk
This show was choreographed by Savion, running off Broadway for a year intil it was brought onto Broadway in 1996 and was performed 1135 times before it's close. He was given the Tony for best choreography for this show. -
Opening His Own Dance Studio
