DISCOVERED NORTH AMERICA
Jaques Cartier discovered North America in 1534 which led to tension between him and the First Nations. The tension was present because Jaque Cartier wanted the land to belong to him only, which would cause the First Nations to lose land. Clearly this would frustrate the First Nations and cause them to be upset. -
CHAMPLAIN COLONIZES QUEBEC
In 1608, Samuel De Champlain established a colony in Quebec. Champlain accompained the Huron, and went to fight the Iroquois. Samuel De Champlain did this because he wanted to strengthen his relationship with the Huron, as well as, the French. Champlains plan was a success, and the relationships between these three colonies began to grow. Many of the huron got sick, which gave the Iroqouis a chance to attack. -
ROYAL PROCLAMATION
British created a Royal Proclamation after the war. This changed the land of Nouvelle France, and granted the First Nations with more land. The First Nations were happy because they got given more land. Although, First Nations were kind of upet that fur trade prices decreased. -
QUEBEC ACT
They now had to appease Nouvelle France by giving them their land back. However, that resulted in the First Nations losing their land... This made the First Nations very angry and frustrated. -
PEMMICAN PROCLAMATION
This proclamation banned any food to go to the Red River area. This was done by the leader of the Selkirk settlers, Miles MacDonald. He did this so that the settlers would have enough food to make it through the winter. This decision clearly upset the Metis and the Northwest Company. So they came back and burned down the settlement. -
END OF PEMMICAN PROCLAMATION

CANADA BOUGHT HBC LAND
Led to the explansion to the west. This feared the Red River Settlement because they thought they were going to be assimilated. They rebelled against the goverment, and succeeded. Manitoba was born. -
NUMBERED TREATIES
Negociation between Canadian Government and First Nations. The Numbered Treaties told the First Nations they would supply Canada with food, equiptment and whatever else they need. All Canada wanted was peace. This lead to a massacre at Frog Lake. Some people of the Cree asked for food and when they heard their reply was no, they then killed 9 settlers, two of them being officers. This rension upset the First Nations. -
INDIAN ACT
Desiged to protect the First Nations land. Essentially made to regulate their lives. Deteremined how their kids should be educated, how their money would be dealt with after death. First Nations had no say in what the government decided. -
CONCLUSION
First Nations were always seen as a little bit less than others. I feel as throughout all of these evets, they were always seen as a lesser value. They built some relationships but it seemed as if they always got broken apart or ruined. The First Nations were people that many pushed aside and overlooked.
