Why Ralph is the one to blame

Ralph is elected leader of the tribe
"He [Ralph] lifted the conch. 'Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things.'" Ralph is elected leader by the majority of the group because they trust him, they think that he is capable to keep the group safe and sound. Pesonality: He feels confident that someone is going to save them, so he feels like they are staying temporarily and that's why he doesn't assume his leadership maturely. -
Starting the fire
Raplh decides it is a good idea to start a fire on stop of the mountain to act as a signal to near boats so they can be rescued. However, the fire gets out of hand and the boy with the scare on his face is burned by the fire and dies. Personality: Although this was an idea of him, Ralph did not take responsability of anything. In fact, he decided to forget the kid and the incident. -
First fight
Jack's group let the fire go out because they went hunting. Jack and Ralph are at odds. Ralph thinks it is more important to be rescued that to eat. Personality: Ralph is frustrated and despaired because there hasn't been any sign of salvation. He progressively loses his hope to be rescued and forgets the very reason of why he was chosen as leader. He becomes mandatory and instead of talking he yells and scolds at everybody. -
Simon's death
Jack gets sick of Ralph always telling him what to do and that his hunting is useless, so he decides to go for his own and form a new tribe. Simon crawls right towards the feast Jack's tribe is having, and they mistake him with the beast and kill him. Ralph participates in this homicide Personality: Ralph is leaving his civlized manners and thoughts and now is following his animal instincts. He becomes hypocrite and dishonest with himself and with Piggy too. -
Piggy's death
Ralph goes to Castle Rock with Piggy and SamnEric. He is terribly afraid of Jack because he feels he wants to harm him so he begs Ralph to protect and defend him if something happens. However, he didn't keep his promise. Personality: Ralph gets afraid, he no longer uses his reason to act, he does anything to save his life, he acts like a prey being hunted. -
The island is on fire
Jack's group burn down the island because of Ralph. "Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darknesss of man's heart, and the fall throught the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy."
