  • Death of his Father

Peters father passed away due to a heart attack. He was only 18 when he passed away, and had a burden to fill taking care of his family (didn't specify siblings, only mother). He didn't want to get into too much detail regarding this point.
  • Immigration to Kuwait

Peter's dad used to work at Aisha Al Salem Complex previously, and when they heard of his misfortune, they reached out to Peter and gave him a job opportunity. It was a great misfortune, the passing of his father, but a turning point in his life. He came to Kuwait with ease with no visa troubles and no background checks, and adapted perfectly due to the help his dad previously. His dad taught him about how to interact with people, different ethnicities.
  • Communities in Kuwait

Peter has two main communities in Kuwait, the Goans in Kuwait community, and the Christian community. He finds his Christian connections the most stable and the closest. Peter plays instruments (not specified), and sings at the church, and finds it as an extremely emotion lifting environment.
  • Experiences in Kuwait

Peter talked about his experiences with his father, and what he taught him. He used to think that the people wearing dishdashas were christian priests, as they both similarly wore a white robe. He told of his troubles communicating with his family before the available technology, and used to pay around 1KD to talk to his family in India for 3 minutes at a local phone booth. He thinks that life in Kuwait is much easier, as it isn't rural, and all of a persons necessities are around him.
  • Birth of Peter's Son

Peter was then blessed with a son. He had to balance his work times, and raising a family left in India. He aspired to be like his father, taking good care of his children, sending them to school and helping them with life decisions, and career paths. He talked about his conversations with his son, helping him develop hobbies, from football (friend influenced), to cricket (more suited for son). Communication with his family was much easier due to technology.

    Statement of Inquiry:
Peter had to move to "access new opportunities". If it wan't for his dads opportunity, he would have ended with a low end job back in his native India. Thus he took a risk, and ventured into an unknown area for himself seeking a new opportunity. He persevered in order to ensure a stable life for his kids and wives. he missed the sweet years of growth of his children, and sacrificed father-son connections for a brighter future, and getting bread on the table every day.

  • MYP Framework Connection #2

    Global Context (Rights and Responsibilities):
Peter's story connects to this global context, due to the realizations he made. He had to take on the responsibilities of his dad, taking care of his family, and taking care of his kids, shaping their personalities, inquiring about their lives (to keep a strong relationship abroad). His rights were necessary and were taken care of by the working place of his father. His right of freedom of religion and communication with family were also present.
  • Summary

Overall, Peter's story is not like any other ordinary immigrant that immigrates into Kuwait through an agency or job applications. Peter found fortune out of his sorrows, and realized that his expectations are drastically different from reality. He is fortunate for his opportunity in Kuwait, and wishes to pass on the same relationship he had with his dad to his children. It is his love for his children that keeps him going; but if he didn't have this opportunity he would have been in India.
