    Mario Kart 64

Mario Kart 64, released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996, holds a special place in my heart. My father owned a Nintendo 64, and he would always set it up so that we could play the game together. This game was the very first game I ever played as a child. Although I would often get hit by green shells or crash into walls, the memories of spending time with my father during those gaming sessions are cherished memories that I will always hold dear.

The Nintendo Wii, released worldwide in 2008, was a revolutionary system featuring a wireless remote with motion sensors. When Mario Kart Wii was released, it became an instant hit, and everyone wanted to own it. The game allowed players to steer using motion controls, which was a novel feature at the time. I originally owned a PlayStation 3, but my parents sold it without my knowledge and bought me a Wii instead. I had no complaints about the switch!

When the Nintendo 3DS was released in 2011, along with Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, I begged my mom to take me to JB-HI-FI so I could try out the demo system. I would spend hours at the shops, playing either Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7, and immerse myself in a new 3D world as I explored the 3DS system’s capabilities. Shortly after, my parents surprised me with the system!

Back in 2012, Nintendo launched the Wii U. Unfortunately, my family was struggling financially and couldn’t even afford the bills. One day, I returned home from school and my stepdad handed me a new game called New Super Mario Bros U. However, there was a catch: I only had a Wii! How was I supposed to play this game? Well, he said, “Wait here,” went into his room, and pulled out a brand new Wii U console! I think I jumped three feet in the air!

However, my stepfather surprised me with a new Nintendo Switch, complete with Mario Kart Deluxe and Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This gift helped me cope with the stresses I was facing.

    Donkey Kong Bananza

My Mum would regale me with stories of her childhood memories of playing the original Donkey Kong game in 1981 and 1994. This game wasn’t something I usually had an interest in, but since it was developed by the same team behind Super Mario Odyssey, I couldn’t resist giving it a try. I’m so glad I did! I became completely hooked on the game, finding myself irresistibly drawn to smashing everything in my path.
