Mario Kart 64, released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996, holds a special place in my heart. My father owned a Nintendo 64, and he would always set it up so that we could play the game together. This game was the very first game I ever played as a child. Although I would often get hit by green shells or crash into walls, the memories of spending time with my father during those gaming sessions are cherished memories that I will always hold dear. -
The Nintendo Wii, released worldwide in 2008, was a revolutionary system featuring a wireless remote with motion sensors. When Mario Kart Wii was released, it became an instant hit, and everyone wanted to own it. The game allowed players to steer using motion controls, which was a novel feature at the time. I originally owned a PlayStation 3, but my parents sold it without my knowledge and bought me a Wii instead. I had no complaints about the switch! -
This game holds a special place in my heart. I was just seven years old when it was released, and it became my escape from the world. It combined my two favorite things: Super Mario and space travel! Playing as Mario and traveling to different galaxies is a memory I’ll cherish forever. -
This game exceeded the first game so much! It allowed the main player to choose each level one by one. It showed the beauty of its time and a cinematic and interactive story! -
When the Nintendo 3DS was released in 2011, along with Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, I begged my mom to take me to JB-HI-FI so I could try out the demo system. I would spend hours at the shops, playing either Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7, and immerse myself in a new 3D world as I explored the 3DS system’s capabilities. Shortly after, my parents surprised me with the system! -
Back in 2012, Nintendo launched the Wii U. Unfortunately, my family was struggling financially and couldn’t even afford the bills. One day, I returned home from school and my stepdad handed me a new game called New Super Mario Bros U. However, there was a catch: I only had a Wii! How was I supposed to play this game? Well, he said, “Wait here,” went into his room, and pulled out a brand new Wii U console! I think I jumped three feet in the air! -
I remember watching YouTube videos of others playing the original Luigi's Mansion game. I found the story real intresting with the portrait ghost escaping. Having the opportunity to play the sequel, I didn't hesitate! Yes, there were a few scares, and my heart would beat fast to finish difficult levels. But its a game i'll never forget! -
In 2014, my family relocated to Brisbane for work, leaving me in Adelaide. My home and school life were challenging. My stepdad noticed my school progress and was proud. He asked, “What game do you want?” He bought me Smash Bros. despite our financial struggles. His sacrifice meant a lot to me. -
2017 was another challenging year for me. My dog passed away, and my parents went through a divorce that same year. During this difficult time, the Nintendo Switch was released, but we were struggling financially and couldn’t afford it. However, my stepfather surprised me with a new Nintendo Switch, complete with Mario Kart Deluxe and Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This gift helped me cope with the stresses I was facing. -
This game was absolutely beautiful. The design of this game felt very similar to Super Mario Galaxy, especially with the use of Cappy. I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to explore different worlds and search for hidden items. The story was also enjoyable, featuring the classic battle between Mario and Bowser to rescue Princess Peach! -
When Nintendo announced Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Switch, I was pleasantly surprised by its release so soon after the release of Smash Bros Wii U. I vividly recall calling my friend, and we would engage in spirited discussions, speculating about the characters that would be added to the game. Upon its release, my friend and I eagerly visited the shops to purchase it, and we spent an entire day immersed in the exhilarating gameplay. -
I remember Nintendo suddenly announcing the next instalment for the Luigi's Mansion series that would catch me by surprise! The level of detail and the freedom to explore the haunted hotel will always be another memory in the heart. -
After years of anticipation, I was thrilled to finally play a new Super Mario Bros game with its own distinctive and innovative art design. Throughout the game, I was particularly impressed by the animations, especially the characters’ movement and expressions. The inclusion of the “Wonder Flower” mechanic always surprised me, as its appearance was unpredictable. -
Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Mario and Luigi series, especially on the Nintendo DS and 3DS. I always relished the challenge of learning new attack techniques and striving to master all the special moves. This instalment truly stood out with its captivating storyline. I had such an enjoyable time playing that I nearly shed a tear when I reached the end! -
Mario Kart World was a game that I purchased alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is unlike anything I had played before in the Mario Kart series, as the game allowed me as the player to jump on walls, jump over characters, and explore this massive world. With nearly a year coming up, the game never ceases to amaze me with all the details! -
My Mum would regale me with stories of her childhood memories of playing the original Donkey Kong game in 1981 and 1994. This game wasn’t something I usually had an interest in, but since it was developed by the same team behind Super Mario Odyssey, I couldn’t resist giving it a try. I’m so glad I did! I became completely hooked on the game, finding myself irresistibly drawn to smashing everything in my path.
