    Early Life (13 Jan 1924 – 11 Feb 1994)

Paul Feyerabend was born in 1924 in Austria. When Feyerabend was growing up, he had a pretty closed off life. He didn’t have many friends or participate in any childhood activities because his parents felt the outside world was too hazardous. Even so, he started school at the age of six and after a while (once able to read) became fascinated with the variety of books that were available.

    During WWII (13 Jan 1924 – 11 Feb 1994)

During WWII, Feyerabend was part of a Nazi initiated group called Arbeitsdienst. Interestingly, Feyerabend was not entirely aware of what was happening during the war by this point. Shortly after, he joined officer school as an attempt to stay away from the dangers of fighting on the front lines. During this time his mother committed suicide, and shockingly enough, Feyerabend didn’t seem to care much about this.

    After WWII (13 Jan 1924 – 11 Feb 1994)

After WWII while still in recovery from his spinal wound from the war, Feyerabend decided to pursue higher education at a university in Vienna. While attending, he decided to study history and physics and shortly after, became acquainted with Karl Popper, a well-known philosopher. Feyerabend thought a lot of Popper and appreciated his concepts even though Feyerabend felt that he was already familiar with them and that they were nothing new.

    Last Years (13 Jan 1924 – 11 Feb 1994)

After the 60s Feyerabend began teaching at other universities. He gave many lectures throughout his remaining years though at times, needed to pause due to sickness. He was very particular about how he spent his time. He turned down offers of office jobs because he felt whatever time he spent there was time that was wasted. Instead, he decided to publish many papers describing his theories and strategies. He died at the Genolier Clinic on February 11, 1994.
