Noam Chomsky (December 7th, 1928-Present)
Noam Chomsky attended Harvard University in 1951 and soon began to pen his thesis is based on the human mind’s ability to express language and how language is then learned. His work was later denounced by Zellig Harris a good friend of his, also whom he adapted many of his principles from as well as their instructor, Nelson Goodman when it became apparent that Chomsky wouldn’t concede. -

After receiving his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania, Noam Chomsky was later hired by MIT as a professor. He also worked on a translation project. Though Noam had no faith in the success of such a project, his peers were impressed with his findings and the books he published during his research. Soon enough the university tasked Noam and his friend Morris Hale to create a graduate program in Linguistics. It is here Chomsky begins to garner attention and acceptance. -

It is during this time that Noam Chomsky proposes one of his greatest contributions to linguistics. Chomsky suggested that language and our ability to understand language is imbedded in us as children and children seek to learn this language through experience. He also proposed that every language while different are also built similarly. Some oppose his theory, but his idea has caused changed in linguistics all the same. -
