    Nintendo - The Original Version
The first piece of technology that I considered to be mine was a Nintendo. My brother and I got our first Nintendo when I was in elementary school. We spent hours trying to beat the levels on Mario. I also remember having to blow on the cartridges to remove the dust so that they would function properly. Image Source: Wikipedia

Skipping to My Favorite Song - CD Walkman
I bought a Walkman CD player. My first CD was the soundtrack to "Saved by the Bell." I loved being able to take it on road trips so I could listen to my own music and not have to hear anything else. My favorite thing was being able to skip songs. I listened to the sound track from "Batman Forever" on repeat on my family's cross-country road trip that summer. Image Source: Wikipedia
  • Mobile Game System - The Gameboy

I was given a red Gameboy for Christmas. I was so excited to be able to carry it with me and play Tetris wherever I went. I remember the carrying case was a clear, plastic box. It had a section for the Gameboy as well as an area to put the game cartridges.

Welcome to the 21st Century - The Family Computer
My parents bought our first family computer in 1999. At the time, having a computer at home was not common. I remember running the phone cord across the kitchen in order to be able to access the Internet via our phone line. I also remember it interfered with the phone line causing a busy signal if someone called while we were online. What I remember most is the screeching noises that occurred while you waited for you computer to connect. Image Source: Wikipedia

  • Staying Connected - Cell Phone

I received my first cell phone in 2003. Marshall gave students in the newer dorms a cell phone, instead of installing landlines. It was a Nokia. I remember thinking I did not really want or need a cell phone. Now I use my phone on a regular basis.

Social Media - Before It Was Popular
In 2006, I joined the social media bandwagon. I was getting ready to graduate from college and I wanted to be able to keep in touch with my friends and classmates. I had no idea how much it would evolve years down the road. Image Source: Wikipedia
  • Plasma Television - Picture Perfect

In 2009, we moved to a new house and my parents purchased our family's first flat-screen television. The TV had a much better image quality than our older one. I remember being told not to leave it on for long periods of time for fear it would mess up the screen.
  • Smart Phone - A Computer At My Fingertips

I got my first Smart Phone in 2014. It was given to me by a family member who was upgrading their phone. Initially, I did not have a data plan, because I did not fell that it was necessary and did not want to pay extra for it. That lasted maybe a year. Now, I use it on a regular basis to access the Apps and the Internet.

Distance Learning - Learning to Adapt
Technology became vital during the pandemic. In the world of education, teachers transitioned from face to face classroom instruction to the internet as their primary form of communication with their students. I spent hours online having class meetings during virtual learning and contacting students to check in with them. Image Source: Wikipedia
