Ming found shelter from the sun by lying on a coil of rope that lay just behind the White Lark's mast. From up there he could see all the beige hills and the white and pink houses and hotels that circled the bay of Acapulco.

Ming started remembering about the time when he was a little kitten inside a box and Elaine had saved him by taking him with her by plane to his new house in Acapulco. Ming had perfect freedom to wander out into the patio behind the shop where Elaine worked. Ming detested people. In all the world, he liked only Elaine because she understood and loved him. Ming especially detested Teddy now since he was always around and trying to separate Ming from Elaine by getting rid of him

Ming was woken up from his nap due to Elaine's yelling, clearly loooking for him.
When she found him, she took him inside the cabin and washed its face and body with cold water so he could feel better and left him on one of the bunck beds, sleeping. While doing all of that, Elaine and the man were fighting. Ming could tell from the tone of his mistress's voice that she was furious at Ted for leaving him outside the cabin for so long on such a hot day.

Ming having recharged all of his energy, went outside the cabin once more; this time, the sun had already set.
Elaine had started the motor, and they were gliding slowly towards the shore. Ming could recognize the house on the cliff being his mistress's and his. He knew that the reason she did not leave him at home when she went on the boat, was because she was afraid that people might trap him, even kill him. Ming understood.

Ming was resting on the rail-less deck when he found the no-sound coming from Teddy suspicious. The hair on Ming's neck prickled and the moment he turned around, Teddy tried attacking him. Ming went flying backward, claws scraping the deck, but his hind legs went over the edge. Ming clung with his front feet to the sleek wood which gave him little hold, while his hind legs worked to heave him up. Just as he was about to fall, Elaine appeared, to again, save his life from cruel Teddy.

They arrived at their house and Ming was exited to be able to sleep comfortably once again in his mistress's and his bed.
He went to bed and woke up a few moment later, now hungry, so he went to as Concha for some food. She gave him some barbecued pork leftovers.

After wandering around the house for a bit, Ming went back into the room he had just been and bumped into the person he least wanted to: Tedyy. The man was standing by the dressing table, opening a tox. When he was aware of Ming he tried getting rid of him, but Ming kept still. Ming heard the soft rattle of the white necklace which belonged to his mistress. The man put it into his pocket, then continiued walking. Ming following his every step.

Concha gave Ming something to eat and drink. When he had been finished, he went upstairs to find Elaine and Teddy out on the terrace. Ming jumped onto her lap and stayed like that for not long since the telephone rang and Elaine had to put Ming down to go get it.

Teddy finished drinking what was in his glass and started circling Ming or to get him towards the edge of the terrace, Ming realized, and also realized that the man was drunk, therefore moving slowly and a little clumsily.
There was nothing easier for Ming than to elude him. After making Teddy think he had gone down the stairs, he made his way upstairs sliently, then jumped on Teddy's shoulders and started scratching him. A few seconds later, he heard the thud of the man hitting the ground.

A few moments later, Elaine came loking for Teddy. When she found him, she called Concha and the police for help. The police took the corpse and the two women with them. They came back the day after. Ming noticed his mistress seemed gloomy, but still felt proud of having killed his biggest prey yet. Elaine put her necklace back in place and flung herself on the bed, cuddling Ming. In that moment, Ming knew how love felt.
