Michael Phelps started swimming at the age of seven. It was his sisters Hilary and Whitney who encouraged him. They were both swimming around the time he was born in Maryland. -
Parents Divorce
His parents divorce. So, Michael Phelps goes to live with his mom with his two sisters. He became very close with his mother and got to see his father very little. -
Sister Almost made it
Whitney Phelps had almost made it to the 1996 in Atlanta. Do to injuries derailed her. -
Makes the B Team
Michael Phelps made it to the U.S. National B Team for swimming. He made it at the age of 14, not only because he is a striking swimmer but because Michael had something special about him others didn't. -
Olympics 2000
Michael Phelps got to go and travel to the Olympics in Sydney, Australia. It is only because he is an outstanding swimmer and had something not many other 15 year olds had. But, in his first Olympics he didn't win any medals. Started September 15th and ended October 1st. -
Now Well Known
Michael Phelps is the youngest male american to be in the Olympics and because of this he is well known. He showed his skills at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and people know who he is around the world even though he didn't win any medals. -
Now With Speedo
Michael Phelps signed with Speedo when he was at the age of 16. When he signed with them they ask what he wanted to do for the sport and he said "I want to change the sport of swimming..." -
Graduation
Michael Phelps graduated from Towson High School. After he went to go eat, breath, and swim. -
Olympics 2004
Michael Phelps had made it to the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. This is because he had finally became the gifted athlete he is today. He won six gold medals and two bronze. The summer Olympics lasted from the 13th to the 29th of August. -
Olympics 2008
In Beijing the 2008 Olympics were being held. Michael Phelps had also made it to these games by never giving in. He won eight gold medals beating Mark Spitz's' record. From August 8th through the 24th. -
Out Doing Mark Spitz
Michael Phelps had beaten Mark Spitz's' record of gold medals (seven) in the 1972 Olympics. This was in the 2008 Olympics. He won eight gold medals. Michael Phelps wanted to show the nonbelievers he could beat Mark Spitz's' medal count in swimming. -

Michael Phelps didn't start his training for the 2012 Olympics until a year before. Only because he didn't decide if he was going to participate in the 2012 Olympics. It was in Baltimore, Maryland. -

Michael Phelps wanted to show everyone he still could win in the Olympics in London. This year is said to be his last year in the Olympics. Started on July 27 to August 12. -

Michael Phelps is now a "retired" Olympian. He currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland. He had his time now all of his time goes to his Michael Phelps Foundation for the kids. He also hopes soon he can start a family with five children.
