    The Best Known of Mali Monarchs

    Mali went through a period of conflict over issues of succession. When the conflict died down, Mansa Musa, perhaps the most able and best known of Mali monarchs, rose up to the throne in 1307. Mansa Musa merged the administration of the state, and encouraged trade and protected trade routes.

    Musa Becoming Emporer

    In 1312, Musa became emperor after the death of Abu-Bakr the second. When being crowned he was given the name Mansa, meaning king. In the expedition he took witch was a four thousand mile trip to Mecca. In his trip, he brought back sizable amounts gold. Musa made nice donations to the poor with the gold he got from the expediton.

    Being King

    As Mansa being king, the empire was huge ,so he couldn't hear all the concerns of his people. One thing he did was divide he empire into regions. He made governors in charge of each region. Each village had a mayor also. Mali was rich when Mansa came to power. Wealth in the form of gold poured into Mali. Mansa was very giving when traders stopped at Mali. Mansa Musa fixed religious freedom. He even made education free.

    Location of pilgrimage

    Mansa Musa, fourteenth century emperor of the Mali Empire. His pilgrimage to the Muslim holy city of Mecca in 1324 introduced him to rulers in the Middle East and in Europe. Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca brought Mali to the attention of Europe. Mansa Musa is known in history as a religious, kind, and a far-sighted ruler. He ruled for less than a hundred years .

    Musa's Death

    Before he died he made a university. Then he died in 1332. His son Maghan took over after he died.
