0-3 Months
Use: Louie beings to attend social partners, he looks at us and others talking to him.
Form: He starts to produce reflexive sounds, he has been babbling a lot and making many sounds.
Content: Louie starts to look toward a sound that may be near him whenever there is a person talking to him, he will turn towards them and look at the TV when it is on. -
3-6 Months
Use: Louie starts to recognize his own name, whenever we say his name he starts to look at us.
Form: Louie is beginning to produce vowels, squeals, and growls. He makes lots of squeaky noises and protest when wanting something.
Content: Starts to recognize categories, and imitate gestures. when we clap he attempts to clap too. -
6-9 Months
Use: Louie is starting to cry when someone takes his toy away or when someone is offering him something he pushes it away. Louie is also starting to wave hi and bye to people.
Form: Louie is starting to babble and he is paying close attention to objects around him
Content: Louie is starting to understand the word "No" and shakes his head when the word "No" is said. Louie is starting to look around for his objects. Louie goes to the kitchen and tries to open cabinets for food when he is hungry. -
9-12 Months
Use: Louie is starting to point at objects that interest him, like his bottle, for example. He also uttered his first word, which is "Daddy."
Form: Louie is starting to understand some multiword utterances. For example, he understands when asked, "more milk?"
Content: Louie can understand 5 to 10 words. He also informs others by leading them to an object and pointing to it when it is broken. -
12-16 Months
Form: He has unintelligible speech. He has been able to babble to us and mumble when he wants food or a cup.
Syntax & Morphology: Most of his utterances consist of single nouns. He babbles to us.
Content: Louie is starting to speak his first words! "daddy" & "mommy" are his first words.
Use: Louis is also able to use gestures and direct his body toward something he wants. Whenever we speak to him he turns his body towards us and when he wants something he turns towards us. -
16-20 Months
Form: 25% of Louie's words are becoming intelligible. He is starting to say things we understand more such as "cup" or "food" or "more".
Syntax & Morphology: He continues with utterances of single nouns and his MLU is around 1.31 at this point of age. Louie is speaking a lot more and there are common nouns he uses and points out things such as "dog"
Content: Louie is starting to use 3-20 words! His vocab has increased!
Use: Louie has developed verbal turn-taking when we talk to him such as "yes" -
20-24 Months
Form: Louie is starting to process words incrementally. When we talk to him he understands more
Syntax & Morphology: Louie's MLU has increased to 1.62 and has developed morphemes such as "ing". He has been saying "walking" or understands when we say "going"
Use: He has started to produce about 50 words! His vocab has increased and he continues to talk more when he wants something.
Content: Louie is using gestures and words at the same time and combining them. He will point and say "food" -
24-28 Months
Form: Louie is starting to pronounce 65% of all words intelligibly. For example, he can now ask for food with the correct intonation.
Syntax & Morphology: Louie is now using plurals and possessive morphemes. He says, "my shoes."
Content: Louie can now understand 500 words and can produce about 200. For example, he can understand when he is asked if he is hungry and responds.
Use: Louie is now using his imagination. For example he can now place his belongings in the right places. -
28-32 Months
Form: Louie can now say about 70% of all words clearly. For example, he can express when he wants to go outside and play.
Syntax & Morphology: He can now present progressive morphemes and uses "ing" with mastery. An example, he can now say he is playing with his toys.
Content: Louie attends to sentence structure when interpreting new words. For example, he now said I want milk.
Use: Louie now engages in short discussions topics. An example, He can now discuss what he wants to eat. -
32-36 Months
Form: Louie pronounces about 80% of all words clearly. An example, he can now say when he needs to use the bathroom.
Syntax & Morphology: Louie can now use some contractions 25% of the time. For example, he says I can't.
Content: Louie can ask simple questions. For example, he asks, mommy, where is daddy?
Use: Louie clarifies and requests clarification during conversations. For example, he asks where we are going when mom tells him they are leaving. -
36-40 Months
Form: Louie is beginning to develop phonological awareness- he plays with the speech sounds
Syntax & Morphology: He has been using 4-5 words in sentences. Louie often shares "I want some food" or "I want to play"
Content: Louie is aware of pronouns such as "they" "them", he will say "I see them playing" "they are eating"
Use: He beings to engage in longer dialogues. He will share what he wants or what he wants to do. His sentences are longer so he can say for example "I want to play with them" -
40-44 Months
Form: Louie is able to refine articulatory skills. He can use his articulatory skills the right way, moving his jaw and tongue to make the right speech sounds such as l, "let's go"
Syntax & Morphology: He started using pronouns with his friends "he went to school today"
Content:Uses&comprehends 1,500-2,000 words. His vocab has increased& he understands what we say to him and he follows directions
Use :Louie is using primitive narrative for example he said "let's go to the park to swing and play" -
44-48 Months
Form: Louie has mastered most consonants. For example, he says "my" "by" "hmm"
Syntax & Morphology: He has started to use past tense often, for example, "we went to the store"
Content: He understands kinship terms, such as "aunt" & "uncle" when other family members come over we emphasize that he knows who they are and attempts to say, aunt & uncle
Use: Louie understands indirect requests, for example: when we point at something for him to clean up he will clean it up. -
48-52 Months
Form: Louie's speech is weak in syllables, he decreases us in phonological. For example, when he says "spider" he says "bider".
Syntax & Morphology: Louie combines for to seven words in sentences. An example, Louie is able to say " I need to go to the bathroom".
Content: Louie uses reflexive pronouns such as himself, itself. An example, Louie says " the toy fell by itself".
Use: Louie is able to construct narratives. An example, he does not lie when asked the question "did you put up your toys" -
52-56 Months
Form: Louie is very smart in connected speech. For example, Louie can say "blue".
Syntax & Morphology: Louie uses irregular plural forms. For example, he says " teeth".
Content: Louie uses "what did" or "what does". Louie askes "what did Mommy do"?
Use: Louie uses indirect requests. For example, Louie askes for food when he is hungry. -
56-60 Months
Form: Louie now knows the letters that make up his name. For example, he can say, "L O U I E."
Syntax & Morphology: Louie now combines 5-8 words in a sentence. An example, he says, "I want to go play."
Content: Louie uses 1,500-2,000 words; he now uses deictic words. An example, he says, "I want to go over there and play with this toy."
Use: Louie uses a narrative with a sequence of events but no theme. An example, he says, "Grandma came over, and mom made me food."
