First guitar
John's mother, Julia, gave him his first guitar when he was 15 years old. She paid 5 pounds and 10 shillings for the Gallotone Champion. -
The Quarrymen Band
The Quarrymen was the first band that John established in September of 1956. They were named after Quarry Bank High School, and began as a skiffle group, playing music with jazz, folk, and blues influence. -

The birth of his son, Julian
His son Julian was born on April 8th 1963. Julian was named after John's mother, Julia. -
John met Yoko
Yoko and John togetherJohn attended an art exhibit where Yoko was presenting her own artwork. Yoko pursued John and sent him messages and letters for weeks until he responded. -
Bed-In for peace
Knowing that their wedding was going to be a huge press event, John and Yoko decided to use the publicity to promote world peace. Between March 25th - 31st 1969, the couple let press into their hotel room in Amsterdam from 9 a.m to 9 p.m every day. -
John's "Lost Weekend"
During 1973, John and Yoko decided to seperate for 18 months, in which John later referred to as his "Lost Weekend". During this time, John heavily abused alcohol. After he got help, he was able to reunite with Yoko and create multiple different solo hits. -
Sean Lennon is born
John's second son, and his and Yoko's only son together was born in 1975. After his brith, John took the role as "househusband" and took a 5 year hiatus from the music industry. He committed all of his time to his family during this time. -
Double Fantasy
After he announced his hiatus was over, John released his last album named Double Fantasy. The songs on the album were meant to reflect his newfound stable family life. Although it was his last album, Double Fantasy was not well received. One critic said "it is like a godawful yawn". -
The death of John Lennon
JohnAfter signing autographs for fans, John and Yoko were walking back to their apartment in New York. As they walked into the apartment, Mark Chapman shot John in the back 4 times. He was pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m at Roosevelt Hospital. Ono did not have a funeral for John, although she said "John loved and prayed for the human race. Please pray the same for him."
