Jane Polk was his mother and Samuel Polk was the father he would James Polk would later meet Sarah Childress who would be his wife. -
Early Life
James Polk's family Moved to a plantation in Tennessee when he was 11 and this was a good way for the Polk's to save money. The downside of moving to Tennessee is that it was a long journey from North Carolina to there new home. -
Education
Later he would go back to North Carolina to go to North Carolina University. -
James Polk's job
After college in 1818 he started as a lawyer and then moved onto a states person. -
James Polk's politics
starting as a states person he then moved on to the democratic party to run for president and he was nickname the dark horse. He was nicknamed the dark horse because dark horse means underdog and he was the underdog the entire campaign. -
presidency
serving from 1845 to 1849 believing that by the time he was done the United States would be extended and he did that. Also in his time of presidency he also secured the Oregon territory. -
Death
Due to old age he died June 15, 1849 in Nashville, Tennessee -
legacy
know as one of the best president up until the Civil War.
